2005 Vue Clutch Reservoir Dry = No Clutch. Slave issue???

Looking for opinions - here's the history:

No previous problems with slippage.

Pulling into a parking lot this evening, it was difficult to get the car back into gear, but it went and we parked, went inside, came back to go home.

Car starts fine. There was a little pressure on the clutch but not enough to shift into any gear from neutral. Opened the reservoir to check the fluid level and it was completely empty, and after that there was absolutely no pressure left in the clutch pedal.

Added Dot3 fluid, still no pressure.

Could this fix be as simple as bleeding the line or are we likely looking at a complete hydraulic replacement? Is there a really reliable way to determine if the master and/or slave cylinders need to be replaced?

Your master or slave just died.

Most likely the slave.


You'll have a soaked carpet if it's the master, and brake fluid will be dripping from the engine/tranny if it's the slave.



If it's the slave, replace the clutch (plate & disc) while you're at it.
