Default Random No-Start

Looks like I have a good chance at getting that SL-1 I talked about randomly in a previous thread.

My buddy says it's not starting, and that it's been happening for a while, seemingly randomly.

Other than the usual problems (bad battery, loose belts, bad alternator) are there any other common issues that cause a no start? (On Jeeps, it's the CPS).

I plan on hitting the battery with a DMM before and during cranking. If it doesn't start - then jumping it and hitting it with a DMM again to test the alternator.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Usually, if the battery can turn over the engine but the engine randomly won't fire up, its not a battery issue and a boost from another battery won't help. A starter draws the most current from a battery so if it can turn over, something else is wrong that can be either a fuel or ignition issue.

Search for the two procedures to test each one. Its a good troubleshooting method.

Thanks fdryer.

I know the basics of testing the fuel and fire systems for an engine, thanks to my Jeeps.

Are there any common sensor/wire/harness failures to keep an eye out for?

That may depend on model year and most likely covered throughout these threads.

Turns out that the battery is just old and crappy. I'm gonna get a new battery for it soon and get the massive exhaust leak fixed.
