2009 AURA XE
Dizzy 2009 Aura XE - Nagging Vibration

Hello Saturn Vibration Experts. Thanks for taking your time.

In short, I bought a used 2009 Aura six months ago from an elderly gentleman; it had 22K miles, now 29K (four cylinder, six speed transmission). He told me it had been in a 'fender bender' (right front corner) and that his body shop had replaced the right front fender, headlight and bumper cover. Like a fool, I bought it.

After we had driven it several weeks we noticed a vibration occuring anywhere from 45 -70 mph, but most noticable around 45. We recently had a road force balance and they discovered a bent rim (left front tire). It was replaced and we think the vibration has been lessened but not totally elminated.

My question is; what other front end components should I have evaluated? Is it possible a drive axle is bent (assuming the accident was more than a mere fender bender)?

Any thoughts or suggestions are very much appreciated.

The steel wheels are pretty weak, potholes can easily bend those wheels. Before I start tearing into front end components, I'd look at the other wheels too.

If the wheels are okay, I would look at the lower control arms and driveshaft.

I would further diagnose the wheels and tires. Check the condition of the tires (cupping/scallop/feathering), and alignment of the wheels to the car. If a simple tire rotation does not change the vibration then I would look into what's wrong with the car.

2009 AURA XE
Thumbs Up Re: 2009 Aura XE - Nagging Vibration

Thanks for all the feedback.

BTW.........I had all four wheels on the road force balance machine; only one was found bad.

I was told by the garage, however, that they are seeing more and more bent wheels as the mfgs try to search for places to 'lose weight'.

So..........I may look to the drive shaft next. Not sure if that will have to be actually removed in order to have it effectively evaluated.

Again, thanks.................... FirstAura (aka Bob)
