AWESOME!! - I was dreaming of doing something like this since I got my wagon a year ago. When I saw these pictures here I was amazed at seeing reality even better than I imagined. I never considered raising the rear floor but it looks like a smart option. Thanks to Hein for sending me this link AND for doing such a skilled and nicely designed job. I love the pillow bolster shoved down behind the forward tilted drivers seat to buy a few extra inches in bed length.

I grew up in the 70s and my first car was a 71 Dodge van. I put nice paneling and shag carpeting in the interior and built a bed in the back. With todays miniaturization of electronics and sick gas prices this is the smart way to have something similar or better.

If the plans are available, let me know how to purchase the PDF

I can provide some full scale drawings that will allow you to extract all the profiles. It will be on a large sheet (48x96) so you'll have to find someone who can plot parts of it at full scale so you can cut out templates. There are no instructions or dimensions, just outlines of the parts. I can't guarantee that the parts will fit perfectly but should be pretty close. A little shimming here or there should take care of it.

And since you are the first to ask, I'll send you the drawings for free. Please PM me with your email address.

I am selling this conversion for $350. (sold the wagon)
Shipping will be ~$100 (probably will use Greyhound freight).

Delivery possibility. Act fast!
I am driving from Portland, OR to Denver via SLC tomorrow
& Thursday so willing to deliver along I-84, I-80 route.
Can also deliver in Portland area.

Conversion Includes:
  • box/frame that replaces rear seat.
  • sub and amp (deduct $75 if you don't want those)
  • Rear support frame. maintains access to spare.
  • 3 lift up covers with carpet.
  • mounting brackets & screws

You will need to remove your rear seat and the large plastic molding underneath. The rear frame and box are attached with 6 screws. It drops right in and locates on the body contours. It took me 1/2 hour remove the components and replace the factory seats. Super easy to install.

Please send a PM if interested.

Sorry to resurrect an old post but did anyone ever obtain the plans for this setup. I messaged hein in attempts to get my hands on them but it appears as though he is no longer involved here at saturnfans (or he doesn't want to talk to me).

Thanks in advance for the help

Looks Great Adventuresaturn!

Very sorry for the slow response and not replying to PMs. I am happy to supply any more data if needed and will check this thread for while. I still have all the parts for our wagon in the basement. We love our remaining Saturn. A 95 SC1 with DOHC swap.

We do still offer Saturn items at our Ebay store. Our main business currently is components and supplies for DIY and professional van up and out fitting.

Take a look at the 3M Thinsulate(TM) we offer. It's a superior product for vehicle thermal and acoustic insulation. Used by Honda, GM, Tesla and other OEMs. Great for vans and we would definitely install some in the wagon if we still had it.

All the best,
Hein

Hein,

Thanks for the inspiration, I tweeked the setup to add some more room for sleeping. The girlfriend and I will be touring the east coast for about a month at the end of the summer and are excited to have some space to stretch out. Now if I could only fit one of your sprinter battery trays under the ol' microcamper id be set. Any suggestions on aux batteries for some light use?

Thanks again,
Adventuresaturn.

A motorsports AGM or Lithium replacement might be enough Amp-hours depending on your loads. Group 24 is one of the smaller standard battery sizes. You can charge an AGM off the alternator with a combiner relay but should use a 4-stage charger (Ctek) on occasion to get the best life. There are some nice multi-stage DC->DC (marine) chargers (upgrade from relay) that will be better for the AGM but that increases the cost obviously.

Looks great! You won't be in the Boston area around the last Saturday in October by any chance would you? It's ordinarily the time for the extinct car lawn event at the Larz Anderson Automotive museum. Would love to see you there.
Glad that Hein showed up too.
This may be the summer I do the conversion on my SW2.

I like this. Makes me tempted to look for a SW.
I can say it is possible, and even comfortable (I thought), to sleep in the back of a SC with the seats folded down. Me and a 70# dog. If it was going to be for more than a few nights removing the seats and making the insert seems smart. The storage would be handy and a flat floor would be easier for the dog when on the road.
I placed sun shields on the front and back wind screen and improvised window blockers from cardboard. Some nice ones from 1/8" Masonite covered in cloth or vinyl with bug proof mesh openings for ventilation would make a cozy micro sleeper.
I did learn not to share your Taco Bell burrito with the pup.
