Default Shaggin Wagon, 98SW raised floor (rear seat delete)

I use my wagon to make short trips. Hotels are so expensive so I decided
to mod my 98 wagon for car camping. I took the rear seat out and did
some fabricating.

I have many of the parts digitized so I hope to be able to provide some full
scale patterns and even CNC cut parts if there is any interest.

Spent 2 nights in it over the weekend. Quite comfy.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I like the amplifier mount.
It's nice how the area behind the wheel wells becomes additional storage space.

Very well done.

Thanks.

The top panels, and the pieces that make up the front and rear bases are 19 mm thick LDF (low density fiberboard.) Pretty much the same as the more common MDF (medium density fiberboard) but obviously weighs less. I used a CNC router to cut slots in the underside of the panels to lighten them up and allow them to crush easier in an accident. The insides are painted with black Rustoleum Texture spray paint. To match the interior, I used Rustoleum Multi-Color Texture spray (Desert Bisque) on the outside

The front and sides of the front base are upholstered with headliner material. I got some carpet that doesn't match very well that I still need to get bound. It holds very well on the textured surface so I won't need to glue it down.

That's really cool and a very professional-looking conversion. Think of the possibilities:

* A 5-sp SW2 becomes an extremely useful NASA HPDE track car. Race it all day, sleep in it all night.

* You could carry almost as much stuff in it as you could in an HHR "panel" version, except that you can buy four nice S-wagons for the cost of a used HHR.

* It's the first S-series in which a couple could *comfortably*...um...rest.

Nice work!

Fantastic! I do a lot of night and sometimes I get tired in my SL1 so I pull down the back seats and sleep with half my body in the trunk and the other half in the back seats, but that doesn't come nearly is awesome as this. I agree, hotels are ridiculous in price. Where do you park when you sleep?

Ok. Without knowing what it is, the underside CNC routing makes it look like an "exotic" material in the picture and/or OEM.

Amazing,

Now, you need to find a large 'breakfast in bed' type table, mod in a regular style house outlet to plug a laptop into, park outside a McDonalds for free wifi, and you have an office lol.

I got some CAD work done for a future kit or some plans/templates. If someone wanted, I could convert the whole thing into a sub box that would fit in the sedans. What kind of volume in sq-ft do you need for a couple of beefy 12" subs? I plan to make some other refinements that will be easy now that I have a basic model. I am open to suggestions but also trying to keep it fairly simple.

Thanks for all the positive comments, everybody. Here's a shot of the outside with tinted windows as suggested.

It really depends on the woofers you use and the type of enclosure. A good general figure would be 1-1.25 cu ft per woofer for a sealed enclosure and 1.5-2 cu ft per woofer for a ported enclosure.

Your car looks great. It tough to keep a car clean & rust-free around here and it sucks. The paint is chipped off the front lip of my hood and starting to rust in places.

Thanks for those volume numbers, ruley73. I'll try to model up a box for 2 drivers with about 4 cubic ft. Can you suggest some reasonably priced speakers that I can design for?

@DragonWagon.
What year? I plan on offering at some printable templates for the curved pieces. It took me a while to make those so hopefully I can save you some time/effort/frustration. Might ask around $10 for them. They'll be pdf files that you print, cut out & then use as templates. I could do the same for a sub box and I can customize the size and templates to match the speakers.
