Default Removing roof trim for paint?

I'm doing a complete paint job on my '95 SL2. Is it possible to remove the black trim around the roof or do I need to tape it off very precisely? I'm changing colors, so it would be nice if I could get under the trim a bit, and also not have to worry about getting any paint on the trim if it bleeds under the tape. Is there any way to take it off (and put it back on without damaging the fresh paint job)?

Thanks.

The trim on the sides can be removed. The trim on the front/back is part of the glass assembly. Only way to remove it is to remove the front and back glass.

Thanks. I guess I'll remove the sides if it's easy and reinstalling them won't likely damage the paint.

I didn't see any info for removing them on your site--how do they come off?

Anyone? How do I remove it? Does it just pull up/out and off, or are there clips or something that must be released somehow?

I don't know about your car, but on mine there are 4 or 5 torxx screws holding the trim in place, inside of where the door overlaps.

Your car doesn't have them. That's a second/third gen thing.

Yep. It doesn't. It seems to just have some pegs that are released by pulling it down and out... Is that the correct way to remove it?

oh, those stupid things. Use a screw driver to wiggle out the center plug. Then you should be able to pull the thing out. Don't pry too hard though, else you might break that plastic rivet/pushpin thingy. Or try to pull it out without first loosening that center plug.

No. Not those. They're really easy to remove if you have the right tool. There's a special tool that you can get at most auto store or paint stores for removing them.
