Default Replacement exhaust manifold studs/nuts???

So in trying to solve my Saturn problems I had to remove the exhaust manifold to check for clogs. The studs are in HORRIBLE shape and the a couple of the nuts were quite misshaped.

I went to Autozone, Advanced Auto, and National Auto and none of them even had replacement kits LISTED in their computers. So now what? There must be replacements out there.

For reference, 1994 SL2.

GetSaturnParts, http://www.trademotion.com/splash/in...?siteid=214643 Those are metric studs and nuts.

Stud Pn. 11518152
Nut Pn. 21006315

You can order a nice new set but they will probably be a bit expensive all considered.

The nuts are flange nuts and somewhat difficult to find at your local hardware store. You can use the proper diameter, thread pitch and length generic studs. these will be found at either a good hardware store or a real autoparts store.

If you have access to a junkyard, the intake manifold studs are the same. And those are usually free of rust and easy to remove.

I thought the intake and exhaust manifold nuts/studs might be the same. It's amazing the difference in corrosion between one side of the engine and the other.

Well think about it, the exhaust side sees 100X more heat than the intake. Of course they will look terrible after 16 years of heating and cooling cycles.

using stainless would have helped when it was made. Things like this though not worth the makers bother as by the time they are shot, the car is long past due in many ways, in many areas.

Don't use stainless if you ever want to remove them from the head again. Store bought metric studs will be just fine if you can find them. the nuts are tough to find though. On the exhaust side you can use the washer face nuts that are serrated on the washer face if you want. The nuts are called whiz nuts. If you ask for whiz nuts and get a blank look they don't have them.
