Default Bypass for the Security Fuel Cutoff ???

Is there anyway to bypass the security fuel cutoff circuit?

Well, I found and searched this site too late. My son's 2000 SL2 had a sticky key to where it wouldn't move at all. Of course it happens on a Saturday night, in a difficult place to have it parked. We recognize there are likely several different solutions we SHOULD have pursued, but the large hammer and screwdriver is the one we initially used.

Anyway, we removed the steering column covers but were not able to remove the lock cylinder due to not being able to turn the key to ACC. Also, had not reviewed the video to see how to remove it anyway and was trying the wrong way.

Needless to say, the lock has now been removed (and damaged beyond repair). We are going to use switches for the run/acc/start circuits and just bypass the key cylinder altogether.

However, we cannot figure out how to bypass the security setup. It appears to be a small circuit board with a sensor that reads a magnet on the lock cylinder. Taping the magnet to the circuit board sensor does not bypass the security.

If there is a way to just completely bypass this system, it would be great. We don't want to replace the whole ignition switch and are looking to replace the starting sequence with a couple of switches and a momentary push button.

Please help.

Thanks.

Jeff

Default Re: Bypass for the Security Fuel Cutoff ???

I found this and wonder if it would work to permanantly bypass the security fuel cutoff system.

3w.commandocaralarms.com/itemdetails.asp?ProductID=558

I haven't posted enough to use the actual URL, therefore, replace the 3w with www and cut, copy, paste.

It is normally used for remote starter installations. However, it appears we could use this for completely bypassing the ignition key allowing us to use a couple of toggle switches and a momentary push button.

What do you think.

Getting around the "Passlock" anti-theft system is not all that hard, but I strongly suggest you obtain another ignition switch(with key) from a junkyard if you don't want to pay what GM sells one for. There is a "re-learn" procedure for introducing a new cylinder, or if you're careful you could transfer the pickup from the old cylinder to the new one.
There is a permanent bypass possible but I don't feel comfortable posting that kind of info on an open forum.
