cutting white wire

Hello everyone; I have recently purchased a used 2003 Ion 3. Today for the first time since owning it (approx. 2 months) it failed to start when I was leaving a parking lot at a local drug store. All of the dash lights were illuminated when I turned the ignition key however, absolutely nothing happened when the key reached the start position (all quiet). I have seen a video on U Tube where some frustrated Ion owners have cut a white wire on the connector at the ignition switch. I believe this disables the vehicles "passlock" security system. Has anyone tried this ? If so does this procedure eliminate the security system completely or simply disable the feature of someone trying to use a wrong key or screwdriver etc. to steal the car?

cutting this wire will render the security system useless and will leave your car impossibly easy to steal. or you could fix it for like $30.

If you replace the ignition switch with a new unit, that will solve the problem for the most part.

I replaced mine last year, and I have had only 1 non start issue so far...

I just sat in the car for five minutes, and it started right up..
