2008 Astra XR
Default SIXTH Saturn

Well I guess you could say I told you so, as i have said in the past I wold not buy another..... But I have went ahead and purchased my sixth (NEW) 2008 Saturn Astra 3DR XR with 8873 Miles never registered I will be the first owner yes it is MAY 27 2010 but this car was price right and I had to replace my ION or start putting money into it replacing and restoring as is 6 years old and has 93 thousand miles. I was car shopping and found this treasure. I was looking at all different cars but none seemed right until I found this one.

Any thing I should be aware of?

Just the search function, and that your car looks like a three door with a sunroof. Please provide more pictures of the sunroof install, and if possible the brand, etc.

Looks like a nice car in the best color. Enjoy.

I don't think anything stands out as being a significant problem with this car. Some people have had a wheel bearing or two go prematurely or an electrical gremlin, but it doesn't seem to be an incredibly high percentage. The Astra was in production in Europe for quite a few years prior to being brought over here, so I think they worked out most of the bugs.

The most important thing is probably to realize that getting some parts may be difficult (particularly collision parts), so just try not to get in a serious accident, but that goes without saying.

Hope you enjoy the new Astra.

Woohoo! Congrats! Just like mine, except the sunroof and mine is a 5speed. Good luck with it!

As for any issues, I had my belt tensioner replaced as I was hearing a high pitched whistling sound (close to the mileage you have at the time I started hearing it). All good now.

Factory sunroof was not offered from the fctory on the 3dr model. It must have been a dealer install. Also be sure to get the in service date of the waranty so you know exactly how much factory waranty you have left. If it was a demo the waranty was put in service as of the date it was made a demo.

Very nice car that was my second choice of color and the only problem I have had with my car is the transmission ball bearing (shifter).

I was wrong and the moon roof and the leather seats are all dealer add-on that's why the original price was so high. (no one bought it?) thanks Larry my warranty started January 2009 and is good till January 2012 for bumper to bumper alas on-star said no to the one year free as original dealer activated and canceled the service so I can do the 3 month free if I choose.
As for the sun/moon roof it is marked solaire sunroof so that's all the info.

Also GMC / Buick (Saturn) of Danbury CT was of no help as I expected..
The Young man I talked to would have may-be been helpful if I had purchased my car there. (I will Never buy a car from them that I am sure of) but that's another story...
Thanks again keep me posted...

i own an xr 3dr 5spd. it has not been back to the dealer for anything.
i find the driver's bucket seat uncomfortable on the side of my hips. i own a 99 SL1 and the seats are comfortable. the bucket seats in my 72 buicks are most comfortable, then again the car is larger.
i note in this forum that a number of owners are having cam sensor problems.
i have been problem free.

You got a really nice one. Congrats.

I usually purchase cars that cost 2x as much as the Astra and I swear this car is better than all of my previous purchases. So much value. I really like it.

I'd like more hp, a 6 speed, more modern colored dash lighting, color Nav, proper stereo, passenger seat to go further back, etc but of course but that all costs lots more money in other cars.

Tell us more about that sunroof please. How is the noise? Is it far enough forward to enjoy from the front seat? Thanks.

I haven't noticed the noise. I was driving today and a car to my left was quite noisy (an old Nissan?) I had the roof tilted so the back was open (about an inch?) once my drivers window closed I did not hear the car to my left.
The roof is placed forward so it's not like the stock 5-DR at all. the moon-roof functions and looks like the stock roof that is on an L-300.

Thanks for the shots. When I bought my Astra I wanted the cheapest car I could find with a manual, ABS, stability and traction (cant get in a cobalt coupe with a manual). I didnt want to search for a 5 door with the sport, couldnt get solid answers from the sales people, and prefer a 3 door. But in retrospect, after a year (will be on saturday) I am a little bummed that I didnt find a 5 door manual with the sunroof.
