Default CLutch master cylinder/slave cylinder removal

When changing a clutch is there any way to take the slave cylinder out without damaging it and haveing to replace it? when you remove the slave cylinder from the transmission the rod comes out and you have to replace the whole $130 unit i am being told.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Just put the rod back in. If it comes out it doesn't mean the hydraulic assembly is broken. If the diaphragm inside that pushes the rod breaks, then you have a problem.

Also just dont yank the slave cylinder out once you disengage it from the transmission. Pop is off then use your fingers to guide the pin out as you remove the slave cylinder.

Also prop the pedal in its uppermost position to avoid accidentally activating the hydraulics, and keep the slave below the master at all times during the transition.

I zip tie it between the fuse box and metal rail. Have had no issues with it there on any of my 123434234 tranny/engine swaps.

I've heard you can get a replacement plastic rod retainer from a dealer, but have not had occasion to try get one.

+1 above. You will have no problems removing the slave and reinstalling it after the new clutch is in. Search for some of my clutch problems in the S-series tech because I've had some interesting ones.....

what they said /\ The rod will stay in position long enough for you to install the slave, and seat the end of the rod in the clutch fork.
