the problem is mine are plugged and dumping into my dash, and it's winter, so I need to find and clear the plug before I can run air through it.

my local dealership refuses to even try to clear it unless I pay them to do it. $50 for them to let it sit inside for half an hour and hook up an air hose is ridiculous.

The factory shop manual shows them draining down the front pillars. They recommend using compressed air at 35psi. Looks like it is routed near the lower hinge pillar. PM me with an email address and I can email the section from the manual.

At least in the 2004 model the drain plugs are in the fender wells. Easy to access just pop out those silly plastic rivets and reach up in there. In mine the drains come to a point and clog pretty easily. If you cut a little bit of the tip off they won't clog as much, just don't then attempt to go mudding.

very easy to tell. pour water SLOWLY into the channels and watch under the car to see where the water comes out. I am thinking towards the back of the car. Let me know if I am right.

Even in "da UP, eh", you should be having temps above freezing by now at least for a couple hours a day. The drain tubes normally run through the C-pillar and dump near the rear wheel wells. The drain tubes are 1/4-3/8 diameter, so they're hard to miss. There's a good chance that leaves and stuff have plugged the drain tubes.

Leave the car sit out in the sun with the back of the car pointing toward the south/southwest. If possible, open the trunk so the sun shines in there too. Give it an hour or so, and you should be able to run a heavy wire up from the bottom. I've been successful with 10 or 12 ga primary wire. If you have access to fishtape, that will work well because it's flexible, but stiff enough that it won't accordion at a little obstruction.

I can't get to the rear ones, but I got the front ones clear (for now). they run down the front pillar and the water leaves the car at the rear of the (factory) mud flap on the driver's side and like 8 inches back from there in the rocker panel cover on the passenger's side. I let the 45 degree day work to my advantage. I finally decided to give it another try after posting my last post. I blew it out with compressed air, ran hot (since it's above freezing, otherwise use warm) water down it, blew it out again, then repeated a couple times to make sure I got it good. I have no clue where the rear ones dump, and have no way to access the top side since the glass gets in the way, but for now I'm happy. if anyone knows where the rear ones dump, I might give those a shot tomorrow from the bottom.

2004 ION-3 Quad Coupe
Default Re: sunroof drains

I had water pooling in my trunk on my '04 Ion 3 Quad Coupe. Found the drains under the carpet, just aft of the wheel well indentation. They're an L shaped grey rubber boot that leads to the outside. The lines themselves were clear, it was the boots that were clogged, and the air gun at a gas station for inflating tires was enough to clear them out. Now I have water pooling in my passenger front footwell. Did someone say the drains for those are in the front fender? Are they accessible from the inside of the car? it's dripping into my dome/map light door open switch and turning the light on randomly. Driving me f'in crazy.

They are accessable from the inside, removing the A-pillar cover, but probably a litte bit easier from the outside by removing the fender skirt.
There is a thread with pictures showing how to do this. Once you access the tubes, just snip of the end to make the hole a bit bigger and voila! No more leaks into the cabin.
