2000 SC2
Default Full Custom 2000 SC2 CAI

Hey there everyone. I'm new to the forum but have been working with cars for a while. I currently work at a small fab shop that makes CAI's for various cars so I thought i'd use some spare time to make a full custom intake for my SC2 that i just got a few months ago. just understand that this is NOT a kit we make where i work, just something i did on my own. If you are interested enough and for the right price....

Anyways... the only intake i saw for this car online was the AEM "tube-and-filter" which is a chunk of aluminum pipe and a engine-choking dry filter with no sheild and sits in the stock airbox location which is close to the radiator. Bad design.

For starters, i knew i had to get that battery out of the way to make room for a decend airbox, so i relocated it to the spare tire well and used 00 cable to connect it. If you chose to do this, be sure the battery is secured so you don't compound your troubles in a wreck.

Once that was out of the way, I drew up prints and welded together an aluminum airbox that used the battery tray's mounting points. The airbox also has a bracket welded onto the back to hold the computer as it was previously mounted on the battery tray.

The top of the bow closely follows the hood and will have a plexiglass cover but i am not putting that on till i have the ram air finished.

I chose to use an S&B R1267 Oil Filter which provides PLENTY of air. A bell from one of our kits is mounted to the 45 degree part of the box. From there a 3.5" hump hose connects it to a custom made aluminum adapter (3" ID) that makes a 45 degree turn both to the right and upwards. A 3.5-3 reducer hose is used to connect from the adapter to a mandrel bent 90 degree 3" aluminum elbow. A 3" hump hose is used to connect the elbow to the first 12" or so of the stock intake pipe which was cut at the connection and sanded but left a small barb so it would stay sevurely attached to the hump hose. This piece of the stock intake is actually very well designed. It smoothly tapers from 3" down to the throttle body diameter while making the necessary 90 degree turn creating a velocity stack effect.

I am not completely finished with it, i will be adding true ram air coming from the front bumper scoops.

Remember, eventually the top of the box will be sealed off with a plexiglass lid to utilize the pressure from the ram air.

I have had no problems with any SES lights. The sound is INCREDIBLE!!! It flat our SCREAMS once you hit 4000 rpm. I do not have HP or Dyno numbers, but i do have this,

with the stock intake, i placed the car in 3rd gear and did a timed run with a stopwatch from 20-80 mph, which covers pretty much the entire rpm range. My average time was about 17.25 Seconds
I repeated this with the intake installed as it is in the pictures, without the lid or ram air. As it is, the intake does draw some warm engine air. This will be eliminated when the ram air is finished. But as it is the same 20-80 3rd gear run average time was down to just over 15 seconds!!! There is DEFINITELY a felt power gain that feels like someone pushes the back of your seat when you hit 4 grand.

Questions, comments, let me know what you think!!
