Default Heat Not Working In 96 SC1

I have a 96 saturn SC1 SOHC 5 speed with original motor and clutch (122,000 miles) and it is blowing air out of the vents but it never blows hot or warm air. My engine temp is usually past 1/4 to 3/8's of the way warm. It doesnt work if its a long or short drive, hot or cold. I would also like to know how to bring back some of that old power and maintain it with high miles. Yesterday i put the Lucas Oil 4 in 1 in. Will the DOHC spark plugs work in the SOHC? (are they gapped the same?)

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Sounds like your heater core may be blocked. Seems like you can use a reverse flush to try to unblock it. There should be some suggestions in the forums if you search.

Spark plugs for SOHC are similar to the DOHC, but are one stop hotter. Recommended plug for DOHC is NGK BRK5ESA-11, SOCH is NGK BRK4ESA-11.

Check the condition of your plug wires, you might want to replace them. Also take off the intake snorkle and check the back-side of the throttle plate. If it is covered with black goo a throttle body cleaning is in order.

Of course, the very first thing you should do si check to see if you have a brass ECTS and replace it if not. Check the How To library at the bottom of the page.

Wrong temperature/faulty thermostat and blocked heater core will affect interior heat

May also want to check if the slider that moves the temp range from hot to cold is still attached and not hung up on something behind the dash.

I'm not sure if this applies to the second gen's or not but the first gen Saturn's are known for hanging the cable to control the temperature slider up on something.
