Yes...my awesome luck so far with my Astra continues! Here's the story...I was on my way home from work and pulling away from a red light my automatic transmission shift hard from 1st to 2nd, hard enough to knock your teeth out...then on the 2nd to 3rd shift the transmission held onto to 2nd forever. It was the same story from 3rd to 4th. The car did this twice in 3 days. Being a new owner and needed an oil change anyway...i took the car to Saturn of Greenwood and also let them know about the transmission, and also checked to see if any of the recalls needed to be done. This was on a monday.
Fast forward to wednesday, parts for transmission show up..but the while checking my transmission fluid, the tech notices it totally black. They showed it to me....looked more like oil then trans fluid. They call the Saturn Technical people...and they say change the transmission due to internal failure. So to wind up all my rambling, and according to my dealer....I have the first failed automatic transmission is the US of A....and it' being shipped back to germany for an autopsy. So i pick up my car, new radiator due to recall...oil change (which they ended up doing for FREE!!!) and a brand spanking new 4 speed automatic. I just give an shout out to the awesome folks at Saturn Of Greenwood here in indiana....they are the best!! and thankfully because they are attached to a cadillac dealer....they will be here for a long long time!

That could have potentially been a real disaster. That's awesome that you were well taken care of!

Very nice, see if you can find out what happened to cause the failure.

The quoted labor hours was 5 hours, which to the best of my knowledge is short for a transmission replacement. It was all replaced in one day, they didn't say how long it actually took. And i will try to find out what happend, but i dont count on being able to find out anything since it's getting shipped across the globe to be torn down...the Saturn tech folks told them not to open it up and ship it back sealed.

I would have begged for a 5 speed manual to be installed in it's place. Maybe they would have agreed as a manual cost them less money.
Either way, glad it went so smoothly for you. My Astra itself and the light servicing I've had done has been fantastic.

It's all good, the car is running incredibly smooth now...like night and day almost. I can barely feel the car shift into neutral at red lights, unlike before when it would shift and occasionally shake the whole car. Once the tranny gets good and warmed up, you can barely feel the gear changes unless you are really into the go pedal.

Wouldn't this require a change in the ECM?
