Default New Customized Brakes - V1.0

Hey folks, I am going to start a new thread here, which was inspired by this one here;

http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=143936

Since we are getting off into a parts specific mod perhaps a category of Custom Brake jobs by parts specific, perhaps this will relieve the pressure on the general chain of stock mods, ideas, etc.

In this install we have;
2005 Saturn Vue AWD V6 at 49990 untouched stock brakes

DRT-Sport Cross-Drilled and Slotted Rotors as suggested by:
http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/member.php?u=25285

I bought them here;
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=310117454430

EBC Supreme Green SUV Pads;
http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/61A3376A0A0.aspx

As you will see the rotors are color painted to match my car, yet upon my wife and I using a micron measuring device, we determined that the cross drilled and slotted rotors where made from previously use and "turned" rotors that could explain the low $100 price for the pair on eBay. No problem on that, I am fine with that. I wanted custom and they never said "new" specifically.

Now on the pads I went with the top end of EBC, $20 more for the SUV Supreme.

Breaking in the brakes has been fun. 1st trip, just within a few miles of traffic, half a dozen peaks up to 50 or so and a little more than average aggressive breaking, got some white smoke upon stopping as well as the smell of the break in coating. One more day of aggressive driving and I am still not past the break in level. But satisfaction is there, the break work great in virginity stage, even if they grind and smoke. I wanna get down to that patented mixture of kevlar and ceramic from the UK.

It may take a few days to upload all the photos....

New rotors in both standard eye appeal (no flash) and then the same rotor with flash and specific camera settings.

These are on a working VUE right now and photos of that will follow.

I was kinda hoping for rear discs when I saw the thread. Oh well, they still look nice. I'd have probably painted the caliper while I was doing it, and probably wouldn't have gone with bright red for the rotor, but that's just me.

has anyone tried the rear disks off of a 2006/2007 equinox/torrent? I am really curious if they would fit.

They'll fit. Would probably require swap of the knuckle though.

Hey guys as far as rear brake swap, those parts won't be a direct swap, but there is a guy in Florida that will do it for you if you get him hubs and other parts and he'll ship it back with instructions. He will machine them and make it work. He is on sixthsphere.com, Jay Green is his name, , look for Vue Rear disc brake swap in braking and Suspension to find his info. Hope it helps someone.
