Default recommend a remote start unit

as the title says i'm looking for a remote start unit for an 05 and was wondering if someone could recommend one. from what i gather there is no factory option for this year and some aftermarket units produce a warning light. any help would be appreciated. thanks

bigbluthng ... I've installed 8 to 10 remote starters through the years ... all the same type ... Bulldog Security - which I'm familiar with, but not overly fond of.

I also have a 2005 Vue ... and would like a remote starter ... but have not yet worked up the courage (or obtained knowledge) to do the install.

There's probably a simple way to convince Passlock that the correct ignition key is being used but I've not taken the time to try sorting it out.

Please post any solution you might run across.

For Passlock you need to get a bypass module. The XK06 is the one I'm going to use, it is nice because it doesn't require a key to be kept inside of the unit.

I'm planning on getting a Viper 5701, it's the top level alarm/remote start without an LCD screen. The only downside to it is that it has the new antenna/LED/valet switch all in one, so you have a blinking light in the windshield with a button to defeat the alarm. Real brilliant there guys.

I'm gonna run a separate LED (I want red and not blue), and put the antenna somewhere not in the windshield. I might put it under the center dash with my gps antenna and run a separate valet switch somewhere else, I haven't decided yet.

It's a relatively pricey unit, But I'll get everything I need for about $130. One of the few perks of installing this crap is I can get a good discount on it. If you were to buy the same unit, expect your total costs to be in excess of $400.

I had a DEI Valet (wanna say 461R or something like that) installed several years ago on my '06. I still have my factory fobs and it works like a charm. No issues. I did not do the install, so I don't know what all was involved other than the unit itself and a bypass module.

lock button once locks the doors
lock button twice I guess arms the factory alarm (horn beeps)
lock button three times and the car starts

runs for 12 minutes and then shuts off (configurable)

press the lock button 3 more times and it shuts off.

Also a kill switch under the hood. If the hood is raised, the car won't start.

Yours is the system that I like. If you can find out the exact model and post it or PM me, I would appreciate it very, very much.

DEI Valet 561R

Again, I got this unit in the fall of '06 so if it is a bit different now I can't say. I don't have the LED status light that they are advertising now - unless maybe they didn't install it... Regardless, I like it a lot. No issues. I have the use of my factory fobs as well as the fob that came with it (I have never used the fob that came with it).

One other feature is that while idling, the running lights stay on so you can tell it is running or confirm that it started.

The factory alarm arms with the first press of the remote. The second press of lock is nothing but a confirmation beep that everything is closed and that the alarm is armed.

I do as well. I have also had the dual chirp on unlock turned on (requires a Tech-II)... that way I can hear if I have accidentally hit the buttons or anything when walking away.

My smart has an electronic chirp - I think I prefer it though because it is more discreet than the horn. It's alarm is also a whistle type noise though - not a horn honk.

I just don't like the noise of the honk. It sounds kinda stupid IMO. When i install my alarm/remote start I want to have the siren for the chirp, and then add in the horn for the alarm. It's a little more complicated to install, but then if some sneaky ******* cuts the wire to my siren, the horn will still go off.

But who knows, I might get lazy and not want to grab the horn wire and do all the other crap to make it function like that.

I've had a CoolStart remote starter installed on my 02 for about 5 yrs. Worth every penny here in Ohio.
