Default Tool to remove oil filter on ecotec?

What tool do you guys use to remove the cartridge filter on the ecotecs? I've searched around and found some people on other forums talking about using 1.25" or 32mm sockets but I'm not sure I have enough clearance for that with the Aura. Is there a special tool I could get from my local Saturn or Chevy dealer that would work better or should I just get a socket?

Funny you should ask, there was just a similar thread about it.

Go to Sears and pick up a regular 10 in crescent wrench. That has worked for me going on 9 years on my L100.

"Tool" (low-profile socket) can be found at virtually any auto parts store, e-Bay or Amazon.com for under $10. GM has used this top-load filter design for many years, so it is quite common.

I went to home depot and called two autozones. Only one of them had a 1.25" or 32mm socket and it wasn't low profile.

I did try an 8" adjustable crescent wrench and found the largest adjustment size was literally maybe 5% narrower than it needed to be to fit. I guess a 10" would work find. I'll go to home depot and get one today.

The tool is Lisle - 14700

You should be able to buy it at NAPA, Pep Boys or any other place that stocks the Lisle line. At least they can order it for you if it's not in stock.

It's a nice tool to have since it has a low profile, which allows you to completely unscrew the cap with the socket on (other standard sockets will allow you only a few turns before you collide with the intake manifold) and it is a six-point socket which lessens the opportunity to round off the hex.

That's the one I got. I ordered a few K&N oil filter elements to go with it to get the price over $25 to get the free shipping. Gotta love Amazon. I always check them on almost everything, they are cheaper. Free shipping and no sales tax...and it usually arrives 3-5 days after you order it. Like a present waiting for you by the front door via UPS...

Heh... I didn't realize I needed this tool so I already ordered 4 filters from Amazon a couple weeks earlier. But I sure wasn't going to pay 7 dollars shipping on a 6 dollar tool so I bought a 20 dollar popcorn maker... something I've been wanting to get for a while now anyway... tired of doing it on the stove top.

I can vouch for the 10" adjustable wrench. Works like a champ. Plus, I already had one.
