Default SDVC question and comment

Hi Folks,

I don't think that my SDVC is working. Maybe that is not such a bad thing...

But I remember that during the first week of ownership my radio would raise and lower the volume when starting and stopping the car. Now I don't believe that it is doing that, or I have gotten so conditioned by it that I don't notice?

Could that be? I really doubt it as I am very keen to sound.

My question is: Has any one else experienced this? Also what is your SDVC set at...I never really could figure if changing the setting from 0-5 did anything .

Take it easy...enjoy the ride!

Default Re: SDVC question and comment

IMHO, the SDVC in our Astras is pretty subtle and doesn't offer much range. It does work, but you have to be able to accelerate the car at a moderate rate on a stretch of consistently smooth pavement to notice it. Accelerate too fast and the engine's unique rising tone can overpower any increase in volume. Do this on a stretch of road made up of patches of old blacktop, new blacktop, concrete, and aggregate and the tire noise will dominate. The system is very simple and only uses vehicle speed to calculate any increase in volume. More luxurious systems might use in-cabin microphones with noise-canceling technology.

I'm not the kind of person to drive around with the stereo cranked 100% of the time and I've got mine set at +3, IIRC. As for the start-up volume setting, I leave mine at +8.
