Default GM, Retailers Begin the End to Saturn

A new feeditems entry has been added:

GM, Retailers Begin the End to Saturn

Quote:
Robert Snell from the Detroit News: Dealers have until the end of October 2010 to close, but many will be gone by January because inventory is low, dealers said. The automaker will begin winding down Saturn dealers, who are being offered between $100,000 and $1 million to stay open and gradually sell inventory.

I give them about 3 months until they dump them in every government and rental fleet they can find at rock bottom prices. That ought to help resale for the rest of the folks who bought them...

I am almost tempted to wait a month or so and see if I can get a good deal on an Aura. I was planning on looking at one of those next year anyway.

Kudzu: The Aura is still worth the wait. Just don't wait too long.

Now, my concern for the two SL2's with the gold star on the back is parts & service. We might be more fortunate than some. The current owners of Saturn of Alexandria had already consolidated all their Alexandria dealerships in one place. They seem healthy enough to stick around. I have concerns for all of us who are working with a stand-alone Saturn retailer. I hope they find a GM dealer who accepts them graciously.

Which is my wish for friends and family who followed our lead. A friend bought an L-series on our recommendation. He even went further and became one of the Saturn owners who became a Saturn salesperson. With all due respect to the retailer, it is too bad he tried this in 2008, rather than 1996. He didn't have the experience I wanted for him. And a favorite cousin who leased two before she purchased her current Aura. And loves it. I want to give her reassurance that she is not abandoned.

Why bother? I don't understand what is gained by a slow departure. Go ahead and get it over with by jan 1. (I have nothing against saturn, but I wouldn't spit on GM management even if they were on fire.)

Any how. I 've been there done that, with the last job I had. For a month, we hung around mostly getting on each others nerves knowing that we are gone, and looking strangely at those who were "spared". The spared ones lasted 3 more years before the whole thing completely collapsed. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Explain the benefits to me...
