Default What Saturn is THAT?

Hi, on the official Saturn website (www.saturn.com), there is an "our story" section with a time line of the history of saturn. For 1984, it shows "the first saturn demonstration vehicle". And, I am wondering, is it a Saturn? What kind of Saturn is it? It looks like a cross between a Mercury Topaz and a Chevy Corsica to me.

Do you guys have any pics of it?

Here is the link to the "our story" section:

Thank God it came out looking nothing like that.

There is an even rarer Saturn, if it even exists, the SL3. It's supposed to look like a SL with the pop-up headlights, maybe even with a V6.

They should've came out with the SL3 and SC3 and maybe the S-series would still be around and Saturn would've done better. I heard they were supposed to be turbo/supercharged.

I never saw that before but that photo certainly shows many of the same standard design cues of the GM products of the mid-1980s. It reminds me of both a Chevy and an Olds of that era.

The S-series would now be 16 years old. Pop up lights on a sedan, and a turbo coupe would not have saved it.

I saw a (prototype) SL3 in the metro Detroit area. It was a SL sedan body with SC coupe pop-up headlights. It rumored to get a 2.5L 30v I6 making 250 hp. If you look in a Sylvania headlight catalog under 1993 SL3 you'll see it had 2E1 sealed beams like the 1991-92 SC and 1993-96 SC2.

Was the SL3 really real? Or was it just a myth?

There was a prototype built and that's it. Eric says he's seen one and even the S-Series owner's manual references the SL3 in the index. The protoype has probably been destroyed by now.

BTW, that SL3 thread was closed because Charlie was pressured by GM to not open a big can of worms. Conspiracy? They threatened him with lawyers and eventually beheading if he didn't keep it hush hush. Top brass, pffft.

There were 10 SL3's built. All are supposed to have been crushed. One survived in the Spring Hill plant until the retool on 2003.
