NY Times: Detroit’s Mr. Fix-It Takes on Saturn

Quote:
In Mr. Penske's view, Saturn is a potential jewel to be plucked from the scrap heap of GM's bankruptcy. By early next month, his company, the Penske Automotive Group, is expected to complete its acquisition of Saturn from GM. After that, it plans to try to reinvent the brand as an independent chain of dealerships.

Early October? I was at my dealership yesterday and heard November. October is better, IMHO.

I wonder if there are any thoughts as to re-opening some of the dealerships that have already closed?

I ask because its strange....Saturn of Brunswick (NJ) which has been closed since Feb '09, still has all of its Saturn signage in place, its just covered with white plastic...as if they're keeping it clean until they re-open???

Contrast that with the Buick/GMC/Pontiac dealer that closed a while ago, that building looks like they just locked the doors and left - all of the signage is still visible on the building and there were still sales materials in the showroom last time I looked...And they closed a couple of years ago...

We have a Saturn dealer in Watertown that's the same (I believe the one in Utica, NY closed too). It looks like at any moment it could be reopened (which I am hoping for). Even if they just open for service, that would be awesome, because right now I am driving to Syracuse for really Saturn-specific things.
