I don't know but I would have a hard time ordering from randomdude#1 from russia that just joins to sell the belt (and spams the same post to every thread with CVT mentioned) that somehow he convinced a factory to make them from looking at broken belts and the parts come from Hungry and get put together in Holland and somehow then go to Russia. Which btw does not get Saturns imported at all........ so how they have a need for this belt is beyond me. I know some Opals make it to Russia but the CVT thing is way way pre Opal.

From what I understand, the belt and sheaves (pulleys) are custom-mated to each other at the factory, so you can't just toss a new belt into an old tranny.
Also, do the sheaves survive a belt failure without receiving any damage themselves?

Hello, it not absolutely so: in Russia already some cars have been repaired by means of replacement of a belt and regularly work....

urchak, in the interests of all concerned, is it possible to take pictures of a cvt under repair to compare a before and after rebuild of a cvt? Pictures of the cvt under repair would make a compelling documentary of your case that cvt's can be made useable. With pics, there might be some who can be swayed into having a chance to keep their Vues with the problemmatic cvt's and look forward to having some chance at repairs if enough facts can prove it. Pictures might help to convince the viability of cvt repairs if you are positive about it.

I wouldn't be too hasty to judge on the Russian-made CVT belts. Remember, Russia has some of the finest engineers and scientists working in alternative industries with the downturn in the defense industry. Some good, some bad but these are very talented people none the less.

Here's an old, but still relevant story of how Cobra replicas were being built at a Polish aircraft factory: http://www.cobracountry.com/kirkham/...mfeature2.html

The transmissions were built in Hungary so it's very possible they were used in other vehicles around the world besides Saturn.

Officially GM Saturn to Russia did not deliver never. All Saturny have been imported privately. While the state has not hoisted the duty on import of cars from abroad is there was a whole industry - import of motor vehicles to Russia.

Friends, you have not understood the main thing. We in Russia did not do a belt for a variator. We have bought it from the manufacturer at factory where it is made for the company which made variators. It not the Russian belt! It is a native belt of manufacture BOSh!

I wonder how many dollars you send every year to the corporations in China that rape the environment and abuse their employees. If you have any electronics, shoes, tools, .........
China is more of a threat than Russia is.
I have no problem buying from a guy in Russia who has found a nitch and is just trying to feed his family over a Chinese corporation.
I prefer buying American, but in this global economy it is difficult sometimes.

a niche ? well I REALLY REALLY doubt that many Vue's if any made it to Russia especially if they all had to be imported privately. You still have to pay what it is worth in the USA then add the huge huge bill for shipping and then pay the export and import fees along with registering it. Believe me I looked at importing a car from overseas that is not available and the fees cost more than the car which is why you only see certain kinds of cars being shipped around the world. Hell it cost almost $1500 USD to ship a car 3k miles and that was a discounted rate. So a car that was never imported to Russia and is not very special in any way as well as not having a large value somehow is a niche in Russia where they would cost double what a similar vehicle would? Yes it makes perfect sense. He must be feeding his family off all those sales he is making! I would not send any $ until I could see the product in person and even then I would be very skeptical about if it was better quality and not going to die within 3-30k miles like many of the originals did.
