Crackling Sound from Dashboard

Noticed something the other day when I put the ignition to the Accessory mode after the car had been shut off all night. I heard what sounds like crackling coming from somewhere in the dash. This also happens when you shut the engine off and remove the key or set it at Accessory. It goes on for a few minutes then eventually stops. Concerning, because it sounds to me like electricity flowing thru a relay. Anyone else?

I may be wrong but it might be the "normal" crackling sound that a lot of Saturns seem to make. They say that it's the dash settling although the 4 years I had my Ion it "settled" the whole time. That's assuming this is the sound you're hearing of course...

I never heard any noises like this in any Saturn I owned...

Is the sound coming from the speakers? Possibly a noise made by the timing circuits from the BCM for the interior light dimming functions?

Not coming from the speakers. You're probably correct...it is some timing circuit, it just bothers me that it has become so loud lately.

I noticed it too for the first time today. I suspect it is a timer circuit also. Likely the one that keeps the radio and power windows operable for 10 minutes after turning off the vehicle.

I had the same thing. The dealer tried to find cause and could not. They had to replace the oem battery due to a bad cell and the noise stopped after the new battery was installed.
