Default v6 engine ticking --> 331 miles, VUE at the dealer

'have been reading with interest about the v6 engine ticking. thought it could be normal (how would i know, having never owned a saturn before). tried to tell myself it was just cam noise or balance shafts.......but i went to the dealer and it's definitely not a good noise.

anyone else with the L81 (v6) engine encounter this problem?

the car only has 331 miles on it.....

Hrm, most L81s have a lumpy/clattery sounding idle. Good luck with it!

Default thanks --

have read your posts before on the matter and there is a bunch of whirring whic is normal, but since my loaner is an LS300, there is definitely not that clatter noise which i had.

little worried actually.

It isn't as prevelant in the L300 and LS2... it seems to be something with the intake design being different on the VUE L81... if you have never seen an L81 in the VUE compared to the LS2/L300, it is quite different in design, at least on the intake end.

Yes, even both L300 and VUE are using the L81 V6 block the intake head is a totally different design.

But is the ticking sound actually due to the intake head design? Kinda hard to believe since it's 'Ticking'. I heard someone mentioned it's from the Injectors though.

What did the dealer say about this? But when you're standing outside the car to hear the V6 idling, it's not a quiet motor like most Honda car does. Sitting inside is ok....the cabin is quiet.

Maybe this is same noise that happened in 2000 L Series. Back then,it was due to injector noise being transmitted along fuel pipes and not being isolated from passenger compartment due to clip on firewall not being insulated.
Fix was to "install new isolated fuel pipe retaining clip" . The TSB is 00-T-29.
It worked on my early 2000 LS2. Noise was clicking/tapping like a very subdued diesel

I posted the same issue some time back. My dealer said it is an 'air pump' and normal. It is noticable in the vehicle, but not under the hood, unless yours it another issue.

Default Injectors

My friend's VUE went into the dealer on Friday for the "ticking" sound. The Tech identified it as the injectors...he stated that there is a software fix due that will "tune " the injector timing and hence change or at least reduce the noise.
