an intake/exhaust combo will give 10-15 hp depending on what intake and exhaust system you've installed and the condition of your Saturn before the upgrade. I've seen the dyno results from SPS (the "21" kit) and from S3 magazine when they did a AEM CAI and Thermal RD cat back on an SC1 that was incorrectly identified as a SC2. I talked to the dude that ran S3 magazine before it was sold and moved to point that out to him. S3 sponsored some karting nights at kart2kart and handed out free issues to us in attendance. I think I actually paid for the few issues where they installed parts on their Saturn SC1. That was one of the reasons I got a AEM SRS and Thermal RD on my 02 SC2. I didn't get the CAI because it involves cutting a hole for the intake pipe and that's not legal in the ST class that I'm running in for Solo events. also my 92 SC gained 2 hp from turning the screw on an aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure regulator after the intake and exhaust systems were installed. we actually made it more lean at full throttle compared to the stock fuel pressure. Saturn used to dump way too much fuel at full throttle. my 96 SC2 had a factory adjustable FPR and we tuned a bit more hp from it too. it didn't run quite as rich as the 92 though.

I was thinking more along the lines of someone stuck in stop & go traffic, and having to pull over & shut the car off. The fan won't even run at highway speeds generally.

Of course, I don't have to worry about all of that, as I have an all-aluminum radiator with 2 slimfans. The car will warm up a little past normal on test & tune days where I'm doing runs almost back to back for a little bit, but it doesn't reach the point of turning the fan on.

I am sooo glad I never opened this thread until now. I see: fail, BS, retards, some mo' fail, some mo' BS, and countless useless posts.

OP: just remove the saturn engine and swap in a 13B, it's a direct swap and bolts right in.

Will help with cornering, but negligible acceleration for a street car. If you are only interested in acceleration (and it sounds like you are) you can swap your 15" tires for 14". This changes your effective gearing to give you some acceleration at a cost of fuel efficiency.

saturns are pretty good about not overheating without a fan long as its not like 90 and ur standing still but i live in Michigan so i dont have to worry about that lol.
Wait, do we live in the same state? It's going to be 89 tomorrow... and with all the orange cones and barrels, standing still is a given. Depends on where you live, though.

Only bad news is ived lightend up in the front so much i hope it still works nice in the snow...
Tip #1: weigh everything before you take it off, weigh everything before you put it on. I'll bet your custom exhaust weighs more than your fan - at least twice as much.

but im open for mods/tricks that anyone knows, im hoping for a 14/15 sec car that i can drive every day...
Haven't tried racing the saturn, but your first problem will be traction followed by lack of power as you go down the 1/4 mile.

Nothing is free - everything is a trade-off. Adding weight over the driven wheels will help, but you're adding weight. Sticky tires will help, but you're giving up tire life and mpg, etc.

Tip # 2: decide what you want out of the car before you start modding. Sounds like you are entirely interested in dragging, but also want to keep your mpg and reliability. This sets some limits around how far you can go.

Tip # 3: research. this is, IMO, the best overall saturn forum, but for performance mods, take a look at:

http://www.differentracing.com

http://www.sixthsphere.com

Also, read through the first two stickies in this forum

Going from stock 195/60/15 to 205/50/15 won't knock 3 seconds off your 1/4 mile times, but the car is noticeably quicker since the RPMs increase and reach the powerband quicker. Fuel economy in theory should decrease, but for me the opposite was true. I was regularly getting 31-33 MPG hwy with 205/50/15s after the odometer difference was figured in without trying too hard. I went back to stock size when I put the Falkens on, and now I usually get 29-30 MPG hwy and seldom get higher than that no matter how I drive.

I was clocked at ~36mph (in a 40mph zone) with a reading of 42-43mph (on the speedometer) with my 205/50R15's. It was one of those camera, show the speed, trailer rigs. According to the miata tire calc it shouldn't be THAT much off at 40mph, it should be roughly that much off at ~60mph

I want the 5th gear from the MP2 back as well, 70mph and 3000rpms is pure horsehockey. Hopefully I'll have time to fix it tomorrow, the past couple days have been interesting.

I always keep an extra set of stick-on flames in my back seat. I just slap it on the fenders and it gives me the Go-Baby-Go boost that I need to waste those pesky Evos, STIs, and Supras. LOL

That's odd but makes a good point about the other variables - wheel weight, tire weight, inflation pressures, tire compounds, construction, etc. , that are involved in what seems like a simple change.

Also makes a good point about the need to keep records of before and after the changes. If you're not tracking the stuff, you're just guessing at what changed.

I was clocked by one of those speed trap trailers at 43-44mph, speedometer reading ~52mph. Got the radar thing down to 36 before passing into the 40mph zone, but my speedometer was still reading ~42mph. WTF? According to the miata tire calc it should be that much off at 60mph, not 40-50mph...
And the speedometer shows 70mph @ 3000rpms with the normal MP3 transmission so I dunno what's going on.
