Chicago Tribune: The Saturn Irony

Quote:
Jim MacPherson from the Chicago Tribune: One ironic aspect of the pending sale of the Saturn Division by General Motors to Roger Penske has received little, if any, media attention. In one fell swoop, General Motors will create what automakers have spent decades trying to avoid: a significant independent dealer group that can negotiate with automakers from a position of power on matters governing pricing, vehicle features, and design.

And now the SATURN DEALER is the customer! Ah, isn't feedback wonderful! Saturn will become a pull system, instead of a GM factory pushed system. This will be an interesting transition to watch.

I think this is great. It is about time.

I wonder if the GM/Penske deal contains the same clause as the GM/Opel/Magna/Sbermbank deal in that GM can buy back Saturn in the future when the economy and GM's business turns around?
