Default Where does the plastic end?

This should be an easy question. I choose the S Series for the womanfolk strictly on the body design which made them unique and it turned out to be a fairly good mechanical decision as well. Now I have my head up looking maybe for something else for my wife. I understand the plastic skin on a space frame was used up through the Ion and first generation Vue. Is that true? I was good with that until ebay had a L wagon with a wrinkle by the right tail light. Are the rear quarters steel? Are L series space frame? Haven't gotten serious enough to actually to get up close enough to tap the body panels. No point including a vehicle in my search if it's conventional build.

Rear quarters, hood, & trunk are steel on the L-Series. Plastic door panels.

Those are called fenders and are plastic on the L-Series.

So the L really isn't a Saturn, but really an Opel? if I recall. Then they badged engineered it with plastic doors skins and front fenders, the loose pieces. How about the Ion and Vue? Are they more like the S with a space frame?
Thanks for the information. Looks like I'll pass on the L and perhaps wait until the Ion or Vue get down to affordable prices.

Ions have steel hoods, roofs, and about 1/3 of the trunk lid (top part, towards the glass). Pre '08 Vues have steel hoods, roofs, and decklids (100%, right down to the bumper line). Fenders, doors, roof rails, and quarters are all polymer.
