Default GM Brings Back Second Shift at Outlook Plant

A new feeditems entry has been added:

GM Brings Back Second Shift at Outlook Plant

Quote:
Melissa Domsic from the Lansing State Journal: Hundreds of idled General Motors workers will be back on the line at the Lansing Delta Township plant by the end of summer. GM said Friday that 900 laid-off union workers will return to their jobs at the assembly plant by the end of August when a second shift is brought back.

Dizzy Re: GM Brings Back Second Shift at Outlook Plant

So let me get this straight..

/begin rant/
In 2004? GM sees that the assimilation of saturn cars into other manufacturing plants will leave a modern facility empty. Big money watsed!
In 2005 GM seeing that that delta plant was not big enough decided refit the spring hill plant at the cost of many millions dollars, because it was designed for smaller products. DOH!
In 2008 GM opens the spring hill plant to make only the Traverse. (yippe for we get the fourth variation of the same product!)
In november 2008 GM sees that the Delta plant does indeed have capacity and plans to consolidate the two plants. (at a cost of more big $$)
In early 2009 GM sees that bankruptsy is looming and laysoff 1100 ppl at the Delta plant, inspite of "good" demand, it continues consolidation plans?
Summer of 2009 GM sees the demand is still good for this product and re-instates 900 workers.

Sooo. I have two questions.
1. How long until they push the production of the OUTLOOK/Aciadia back to the spring hill plant b/c it is too busy at the Delta plant?
2. How long will GM play these games with building plants, and shuffling products around, and/or then just shutting the plants down? Instead of designing better cars that are the best in the world??

IMO I say, get some focus boys! This is why you are bankrupt! Make up you friggin' minds! /rant

Does this annoy anyone else?

Yep !!

Especially when viewing those new commercials (marketing suits again in action) that are stating "reinvention" W**

NO reinvention when the original corp. (& union) suits are still pressing the same buttons just covered with a new coat of 'paint' (or is that hi-tech adhesive skins)

Another 'fine' example of corporate spin to help out the same olde cash (of latest taxpayers $$$$) sucking management types . . . . .

ah ha, doug c

Springhill will be closing down soon. They were going to phase out Tranverse production and it lost out to the Orion plant to build GM's new small car.
