[QUOTE=MyOutlookonLife;1462318]Anyone else remember the junk sold in the 80's period? You can point your finger at a LeCar or an Alliance..... but what about the K Car, Ford cars, Cimarron, Skyhawk, any Eagle product, GM diesel products, for that matter; any GM product. etc, etc, etc....

There was more junk built here that apparently we want to admit./QUOTE]

hmmm....I owned a 1985 Chrysler LeBaron GTS (2.2 L four w/turbo), and put 163,000 miles on her before I gave it to my brother! That model (a K-car variant) even sold well in Germany.

If Saturn made anything CLOSE to that car these days, they wouldn't have had all the problems they've had. GM chose to leave the best Opel drive-trains behind in Deutchland.

Now, if only we could bring some of those to the USA....don't know if it will happen, because GM will fight mighty hard to protect Buick.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Yeah, I agree about the GM protectionist approach. However, I don't see GM selling the more interesting Opels domestically, vs. Insignia as Regal. Lots of nice stuff in the Opel bag!

I lived in the UK for several years in the early 1990's and became very familiar with all the brands, including Ford of Europe (nice stuff like the Mondeo), Vauxhall, Rover, Renault, Citroen and Puegot. Renault is by far the least impressive of the French vehicles.

Skoda launched into the UK market when I lived there, that would have been a sweet car except it is now VW. it's too bad Saturn didn't follow through with the promise of Astra, they got nailed on the US dollar/Euro exchange rate. I hope to get a 2008 Astra when they start blowing them out (dealers aren't really budging on the price yet).
