Meh.... maybe a little; but not much.

Correct me if I am wrong; but I have seen two different Cruze models now. Maybe I am getting them confused, but I saw a Cruze ad a few months back where the car looked like a Chevy Aveo...and now I see these ads for the Cruze and the car looks completely different.

Did Chevy do a last minute complete redesign on the car?

Precisely! I said so in another post recently. The current Motor Trend magazine has a picture of it and it really could have been an updated Ion!

I just did a quick Wiki search. Apparently the Cruze had a redesign for 2008 for Rest of World (RoW). So the cruze that I have seen has been the small tiny car. That's why the car that has been advertised here caught me off guard.

Read here:

I don't know. I don't see the comparison. The grills are completely different, the sides are different... backs are different...

Bryan, I can see how the rear doors are similar to an Ion. That's it.

Other than that, I've heard that the Spark (ironic, since there's ZERO electric drivetrain and sporting the 110% cheaper oil driven one) is more or less a ripped off Aveo, only better. Hopefully.

2007 ION-2 Quad Coupe
Default Re: The new cruze looks like an ION redone. IMHO

I definitely agree with that. It looks like an Ion that has been "Chevy-ized" for lack of a better word. The basic layout from every angle is at least somewhat reminiscent of the late Saturn Ion. The parts that look most similar to me are the sides - look at the doors, windows, and pillars.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that the new Cruze rides on the same older Delta platform that the Ion, Cobalt, Astra, and G5 shared.

I don't know - I don't see all that much of the ION's DNA - but if you take away the black triangle aft of the rear door, the Cruze's side profile would suggest Mazda3.

The Cruze rides on Delta II, as does the most recent European Astra and Buick's upcoming Verano small car. (Why not Buick Astra, Excelle or even Skylark?)

The Aveo, Spark and Corsa are on Gamma II.

You're looking too closely, imagine both cars with car covers over them and look at the shape of both.
The roofline is similar, the beltline is similar, same overhangs, same stance.
The Cruze is a bit wider.

From those angles, I see where the silhouette is similar. For the Cruz' sake, lets hope that the comparison and similarities end with that.

All sedans today look the same to me. Take the badges/emblems off and they all look similiar.

Styling reached it's pinacle in the 1950's when one could immediately tell the difference between - a Nash, a Hudson, a Studebaker, a Packard, a Crosley, and a Kaiser.

Amen: you know you've reached a low point when all the rags and fan bois are out there raving over the styling of the new Hyundai Sonata: a rampaging riot of lines and creases and angles that still manages to look like a Ford Granada style knock off of a Mercedes. Wretched times......

I think you get a closer similiarity using the ION sedan tail light for comparison than the QC. That QC from that angle looks more like the last generation Malibu.

Don't know if there's a look-a-like connection or not, but the roof line is similar. Paint in the black triangle and it's very ION-esque.

From that angle both have similar fender lines that follow the length of the bottom of the windows and the front bumpers have a similar curve though the lights are different.

Is someone able to photoshop a Saturn version using the ION sedan grille ?

If the grill had a cover over it i would think it was a nissan sedan. Pull the grill cover off and it looks like a tahoe raped a cavalier.

I can see how it vaguely looks like an Ion, but not much.

I actually really like the new Cruze. The exterior styling is a little odd, but it's a nice car.

I'm particularly impressed by the interior. If I were in the market for a compact, I might even consider buying one.
