Default Tennessee Senators Fight to Save Spring Hill Plant

A new feeditems entry has been added:

Tennessee Senators Fight to Save Spring Hill Plant

Quote:
Bill Theobald from the Tennessean: Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker got a chance to pitch for survival of the Spring Hill plant during a meeting Wednesday with new General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson. The carmaker is planning to close several more plants, shed another 21,000 jobs, and dump its Pontiac brand as part of a restructuring designed to win further taxpayer support.

It's too bad these two Republican Senators didn't take an equal interest in saving Spring Hill when their party was in the majority in Congress and also held the White House. They had far more political clout then than they do now.

Corker was preoccupied with trying to get the american public to see thru the smoke & mirrors of GM and the UAW with their initial request for a handout. FLASHBACK to the 1st hearings: Senators please give us a few billion and we'll be fine. How's that worked out for ya Rick ?

A few months back, they were trying to convince people to let GM die and now they're trying to convince GM to save its plant in their State. Maybe they just learned about the plant's existence in the meantime.

Far from letting it die they were trying to ring the alarm bell that GM as "IT WAS" wasn't viable. Anyone in 1st year business class knew they were right at the time.

Ask Harold Ford if this senator has any ethics or morality.

To Senator Corker. Where have you been?

Agreed, just because they wanted GM to realize that they could not survive long term in their present state and would probably be better off bankrupt instead of a corporate welfare recipient, how does that imply that they wanted Spring Hill Manufacturing to die, too? When that plant shuts down, Tennessee loses a decent amount of tax revenues. As elected representatives of their state, both Senators Alexander and Corker (and Governor Bredesen, by extension) have a vested interest in keeping the plant open and viable, as well as opening new ones, such as the VW complex that will open in Chattanooga roughly 18 months from now.

Most politicians are hypocrites. They will just say whatever you want to hear and go forward with their agenda in whatever direction they benefit the most from.

The new Saturn company needs to take back Spring Hill and build a quality US manufactured car and suv again.
