How far are you looking to go? If you are trying to take it off the throtlebody? Just pull the throttle actuator all the way open, slack the cable by hand, push it out of the raceway, and slide the cylinder on the end of the cable out. The cable will be perpendicular to the actuator.

For reference, the cable is centered on a small metal cylinder. The cylinder is held into the actuator when it is under tension.

While you are at it, check out the throttle body cleaning video's in the how-to section. You might be surprised how much black goo is piled up in there.

Good luck.

This is one of those things that is easier to just do than to try to type instructions for.

Its really self explanatory once you get into it.

Unbolt the bracket from the intake. Or you have to squeeze all of the clips at once.

I only glanced at it, but it looked like the bracket was actually a molded part of the intake manifold....I will take another look....

Yikes! looks like you have a lot of reading to do. Hit the how-to section and get a manual. If you do your homework 1st your engine pulling project will go much smoother.

Remove the cable from the throttle by by manually opening the throttle all the way. Hold it so you can take the slack in the cable and wind it of of the cam so that you can get the cable aligned with the slot in the cam. Slip it out of the cam.
To get the cable out of the bracket you need to squeeze the two side tabs together that lock the cable into the bracket. Slide the cable back and out of the bracket with the tabs squeezed.

does anyone even know what they are talking about here?

The throttle cable is held in place by a bracket, that is molded to the freakin engine or something, and there are no tabs, or sliding parts, apparently a team of engineers has decided to create this convoluted means of fastening the throttle cable in place.

What a fantastic pain in the butt, you gotta remove this *&*^ thing to get the fuel rail out.

The instruction books act like this doesn't even exist and make no mention of it, the Richpin video totally ignores it also. I can't even find any reference to it in google searches, and yet it is blocking the removal of the fuel rail. weird.

well, I was tryin to remove the fuel rail very carefully, without removing this bracket holding the throttle cable in place, and of course, it snapped like it was a brittle twig, it's made out of fragile plastic. I swear it seems like they do this stuff on purpose to thwart you from servicing your car.

I'm pretty pissed, I replaced the fuel filter a week ago and the silly bolts break off, every says they break off everytime and sure enough, someone decided to use pot metal bolts on the fuel filter bracket.

I really wish they would just make a few models of cars and do them right instead of making hundreds of new ones every year, with every part changed and re-engineered to thwart you from comprehending your own car.

I really think if they just concentrated on doing a few models of cars, and doing them right, they would sell more cars, but apparently this is some kind of secret means they use to sell us more cars, by making them all different, so there's no cheap parts to fix them, so it's not worth it to fix and repair them, you go buy a new car.

These big companies ALL do this, it's scientific capitalism, they make 10,000 different models of computers, computer printers, dishwashers, refrigerators, so they can sell new models every year, because there's basically no parts for your old models, or they are so expensive it's not worth fixing them.

I am very frustrated because

1) it defies all logic why they chose such a crazy get-up to fasten the throttle cable in place. There's a million easy, simple ways they could have done this.

2) No repair manuals ever mention this, even though you HAVE to remove it to remove the fuel rail.

3) It broke with there merest pressure, and I wouldn't even know how to repair it, remove it or replace it

Molding the bracket as part of the manifold is a stupid, money saving move and just shows what happens when the bean counters take over a manufacturing company. I struggled with removing the cable on my granddaughter's 2001 SL2 which isn't out in the open like earlier engines. I finally managed to take this photo in situ which confirmed what I thought and what others have been saying. The two outer tabs need to be squeezed toward the center (arrows) but in my experience that was easier said than done. After exhausting every pair of pliers in my toolbox I finally was successful using a pair of vice grips to really crank the heavy tabs in enough that I could begin to slide the connector out of the bracket. Once it had moved an eighth of an inch and the tabs were held by the bracket, I removed the grips and pulled it out the rest of the way. I hope this may be of help to someone.

Hate to resurrect an old thread, but does anyone have any further input on this? I have to get the fuel rail out of the way so I can replace some of the plastic garbage on the back of the motor (Dohc), and I have not a clue how to remove the throttle cable. My patience is starting to wear thin with this engineering marvel.
