Default GM Closing Most All it's Plants for ~9 Weeks

"United Auto Workers union members still receive most of their pay during such shutdowns."

"GM is saddled with a 113-day supply of cars and a 123-day supply of trucks sitting unsold on dealer lots as of March 31, according to Ward's Automotive Reports."

keep in mind that a 2 month supply of cars isnt much when you are selling 20 or 30 a month. or less. weve gone from a normal time of selling 70 or 80 to 10 or 20 if things got back to normal the cars would be gone real quick.

Here's the plants.... Doesn't seem too bad. The plant in Shreveport, LA that makes Hummer H3, Colorado, and Canyon trucks will be shut just 6 weeks.

Its like the UAW is giving their guys a paid vacation during these shut downs.

I can understand both sides why they do it, but something about it doesn't seem right about it.

GM normally shuts down its assembly plants for two weeks each summer to prepare for the new model year, but assembly plants that will see additional down weeks are in Arlington, Texas; Bowling Green, Ky.; Detroit-Hamtramck, Mich.; Flint, Mich.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Lansing, Mich.; Lordstown, Ohio; Pontiac, Mich.; Shreveport, La.; Spring Hill, Tenn.; Wilmington, Del.; Wentzville, Mo.; and Silao, Mexico.

They're not. They are getting state unemployment pay during the shutdown and a little from GM.

This sucks. I just ordered a 3500 Crew Cab with the big motor for work. Of course the cruddy dealer doesn't have it in stock and can't get one at government contract price from anywhere else. I hope they build it before they take summer vacation.
