Default Glovebox Cooling

Im sure some of you have already done this, but I got a PM asking for the parts used for my glovebox cooling, and since its the absolute easiest and cheapest mod you could do, I thought I would post it up for anyone who doesnt have it who would like to, since I had to write it up in a PM anyways. Im just copying and pasting the message I sent off pretty much.

First you need to look in your car to see for sure what you have. we should all have the same parts but sometimes factories make changes in installing parts for options not installed so its best to check if you have it so you can order both parts if needed.

Open your glovebox and peek thru the hole on the left side this is where the cooling adjuster attaches. you should see a black pipe with a grey rubber cap on it and the rubber cap will be in line with the hole. not right up to it, but you will see it right in front when you look in. that is the pipe part and it goes off to the side if you look well. if its there all you need is the switch, which is the cheapest part. (around 3 dollars) the part number is 13115964 and is called an air slider.

The air slider simply clips into that hole. You remove the grey rubber cap on the pipe first. You can take out the glovebox to do it, but you dont need to if you have a needle nosed plyers and grasp the rubber cap and pull it off thru the hole. Then clip on the switch. What it does is direct cold air into the glovebox making it a "chilled" area good for drinks in the summer etc. When you close the switch it closes off the airflow through the pipe going into the glovebox. Pretty simple but actually works.

If the pipe is already in place this is one of the cheapest and quickest mods you can do.

Now pictures so you know what you will be looking at.

The rubber cap you want to see, to show the pipe is already there you will see this through the hole if you dont remove the glovebox, and theres really no need to at all:

and the slider part you need to buy:

and I will grab a pic of my glovebox later to show you what it looks like clipped in, but its pretty straight forward. You can find that part on ebay if you dont have a contact to get it from Europe or the UK for you.

So there it is as a thread Simple, easy, Glovebox cooling for all

Christina

Wow that is an easy mod, but useful mod. Thanks for the writeup. Did a quick search on eBay but wasn't able to find the part. Know of any other places to get it?

I have been thinking about trying this, but I have been waiting for the summer, I hope it falls on a weekend this year (Canadian humour)
Even if you only uncap the pipe, you will get the same effect, but the slider is better to have, of course.

Where do you order the part from?

Just ebay or if you know someone in the UK/Europe. They do pop up on ebay.co.uk and german ebay. Its easy enough to get someone to send one over though I would imagine if you ask nicely. Or you could ask Mcddxxvi I know thats probably not spelt right, but the US Astra Guy has a supplier he can get parts from, he might be able to set up a group buy for you guys.

I paid 1.66 gbp for mine so they are super cheap.

Good Luck with it! and yeah it really is a good simple mod, and it actually works which is what I was skeptical about but it does.

If anyone is interested I could get you the part on a individual basis, or as a group buy (so as to whittle down that $3 price tag )

pretty much, but the slider helps cause it joins the cap between the pipe and opening a little better, and then closes off the air when you dont want it in there. and for 2 dollars ish cant go wrong.

And yeah, summer on a weekend this year would be great haha

I noticed that the pics are of the glovebox removed? Heres are more shots from the inside of my glovebox. Layiora, if this involves no disassembly other than reaching inside and removing the rubber cap then plugging in the new fitting to the glovebox wall, I am in!

I wonder also, what effect will this mod have on the A/C air flow?

Yep thats right, no disassembly, not that its hard to remove the glovebox but you dont even need to. I didnt. Stick a needle nosed plyers in there grasp the edges then pull it off and back out thru the hole. Snap on the air slider and thats it

I doubt it effects the air flow too much, if at all, because the air still went in the pipe with the rubber before, and now it just goes to the air slider which you can close off. I havent had any problems. Super quick, super easy, and actually functional.

I Posted the pics of the glovebox removed just to explain the pipe I was talking about, since they were readily available at the time I was sending my message, but its 100% not needed to remove.
