On the Auction Block: The Last Saturn Ion

Quote:
General Motors is reportedly gearing up to auction off "about 100 of its prized antique and show cars to raise cash and trim warehousing costs," according to a story in Sunday's Los Angeles Times. A check of the Barrett-Jackson website shows three historic Saturn vehicles going on the block this Thursday.

Strangely, this auctionning actually makes me a bit sick. This is the last polymer-clad sedan made for Saturn, I think its place in a museum and there it should stay as a memory of what was.

This is sad.

It's like preparing for divorce - selling all items that has any value that may remind GM/Saturn of it's previous relationship.

Only question remains is if Saturn will simply fold and liquidate its assets via liquidators or will it have any value worth salvaging for another buyer.

The last Ion sold for $11,000 according to the Barrett-Jackson website. What a waste. I would have bought it if I had know about it sooner. Oh well.

More on the GM cars that were auctioned and may not be driven or registered for street use because of the NHTSA

Hopefully the buyers of the Saturns at this auction are still ok to register and drive if that's what they want to do. They should be in a museum IMHO.

I would laugh if it were a bare bones minimum 2 level, had one, didn't care for it, the lack of cruise control made 1600 miles seem very long.

I agree, though, this car and the last vue are the last SATURNs, they should be museum pieces or go to someone like Jay Leno, who would properly maintain and care for them.
