2002 SC2
Wrench SC2 Fog Light Replacement

Does anyone happen to know what the procedure is to replace an '02 SC2 foglight. This is the wife's vehicle, therfore I have not taken a close look at it yet to determine the necessary steps. Thought I would start here, for those who have already had to previously replace foglight bulbs. Also, is anyone using a bulb that seems to perform better than the stock bulbs? Thanks for any assistance!

Reach up from under the car, disconnect the electrical connector, twist and remove the bulb.

Install in reverse order.

I am curious also, as to what kind of aftermarket fog light assemblies you can buy for a SL2 ? what will fit in the small holes ?

Scott Peterson asked, "I am curious also, as to what kind of aftermarket fog light assemblies you can buy for a SL2 ? what will fit in the small holes?"

A couple of years ago I put that question to lighting consultant Daniel Stern. His comment was something like 'without sticking them on the grille opening, I don't know.'

OTOH I'm wondering if a pair of the CIBIE "Tango" fogs Daniel sells could be adapted onto the rear of modified SC-2 fog light assemblies.(?)

If you can fab up a bracket, the possibilities are endless.

For your '97? You can get aftermarket brackets that fit the OEM studs on the inside of the bumper via eBay. Or, if you get lucky, find a pair on a salvage car. With extremely modest fabrication (I'm a pretty crude fabber), they can accomodate the Pilot / Navigator brand 55W H3 driving lamps, which happen to be the same diameter as the OEM fog lamps, but considerably brighter, and with glass (or in some cases polycarbonate) lenses and steel housings.

-- page 334 of the 2002 Saturn S-Series Owner's Handbook --
1. Turn off the foglamp switch and allow bulbs to cool before changing.
2. Reach through the opening in the fascia to the rear of the fog lamp.
3. Rotate the bulb socket counter-clockwise and remove it.
4. Remove the wire connector from the bulb by lifting the lock tab and pulling it away from the plastic base.
5. Remove the bulb and replace it with an appropriate bulb.

I've used Sylvania SilverStar 880ST bulbs in my 2002 SC2 standard fog lamps and they work great.

I stopped replacing my fog light bulbs on my 1996 SC2 many years ago. Each time I replaced the bulbs, they would burn out in a few weeks. Probably some electrical problem that's not affecting any other electrical things other than the fog lamps.

Are you being careful not to touch the bulbs? What brand bulbs are you using? Is there any condensation on the housing?

wear gloves and don't lick them before pushing them into the socket. do you leave them "on" all the time? that burns them out sooner if they flash with the parking lights when you use the RKE to lock the door and set the alarm.
