So, you guys *****ed about GM ruining Saturn and all that jazz. The glory days are gone, blah, blah, blah. Now that there's the possibility of a full spin-off, which could lead to full-scale manufacturing, not just boutique rebranding, and you guys are still *****ing. Does nothing ever please you?

Hey, don't blame me.

I just can't make heads-or-tales out what Jill sent us. I'm more confused now, than when I was before receiving the letter.

Nowhere in that letter is a mention of "WHO" is going to build those cars.

Okay, so let's speculate and converse on that instead, not these Titanic metaphors.

We know China and India are looking for an "in." TaTa, Geely, Chery, and BYD are all possibilities. But, FIAT (Chrysler talks still on?), Peugeot, Renault, and other smaller Euro brands also want an "in." Seeing as how the Chinese are still a ways off from making a crash-worthy vehicle, there's a greater chance we'll see Euro pairings.

How about some comments on that, rather than snarky remarks on how the sky is falling. (not directed at you, Bik)

I'd better go tell the king....

Fiat would be the most likely candidate seeing their close ties to GM in the past 20 years.

Those ties were severely singed after FIAT tried to (in bad faith) exercise the put option in the JV contract earlier this decade. Regardless of the hookup, the chance of a small diesel arriving is much higher than under the GM umbrella.

OK, fine. What would make the most sense (and I sincerely hope this is the avenue being pursued, not some Chinese or Indian venture) is Saturn offering as much, if not all, of Opel's lineup here in the States. Quite frankly, there isn't a single car that Opel sells over there that couldn't sell over here. If it works, maybe they co-design the next generation of Saturn/Opel vehicles, take over some shuttered factories and build them here (as well as there).

This reminds me of the movie Animal House where the Kevin Bacon ROTC pledge charactor near the end is pleading "everything is fine, calm down, etc." as he is being trampled by the mob.

Okay, my comment is that Saturn was all about being a truly American car company. Let's not further tarnish its once good name by using the brand to sell cheap Chinese or Indian crap.

Didn't GM just try that? If that was the case wouldn't GM have said that?

If Saturn still had a factory, I'd feel upbeat with the news.

But.... GM made sure to liquidate all Saturn's assets and take their only manufacturing complex.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with to sell.

So what's the point of "Still Saturn" if all Saturn becomes a hodgepodge of imports? Defeats every ounce of the original intent of Saturn of trying to show off a quality American made/brand product, right? Ugh!
