Question How do I replace the Headlamp assembly in a 2001 SC2?

Hey folks. Got whats probably a stupid question for you. Its about my 01' SC2.

The clear plastic part of my drivers side headlight assembly is busted due to my drunken neighbors not knowing how to parallel park. Can anybody tell me how to replace it? I know on the older S Series models (without pop-up lights) it was a simple removal of two or three bolts. Is it the same with the 01 SC2?

Also, does anybody know of a good ( meaning reputable yet inexpensive) Saturn parts site that would have what I need?

Thanks all.

Go to your nearest pick and pull yard and pull a Headlight cover yourself. Buying a new headlight cover will be more expensive.

Also check out www.car-part.com They are a national website that has links to hundreds of salvage yards across the U.S. that may have a good used headlight cover.

Doing it this way is alot less expensive on your wallet.

when the headlamp pod is replaced does this mess up the aim, or do you not mess with the aim when removing the old light?

It should have a bubble level to make aiming pretty easy, as long as you have the proper socket.

what i mean is do you have to undue the aiming screws to get the old headlamp off, or can the old headlamp be removed without changing the aim? i know there is 2 aiming screws & when the headlamp pod is removed does the aiming hardware come off with the old headlamp pod or does the aiming hardware stay on the car & you simply unbolt the headlamp from the aiming hardware & that stays untouched? i forgot how that works...

my headlamp on ther now has perfect aim & i want to change the headlamp pod & leave the aim alone. dam that headlamp water already!

aiming hardware is part of the headlight assembly. Assuming it's like my '99, you take out 2 bolts, undo the wiring harnesses, and pop it out of place vertically.

aim should not change when you replace the headlamp assembly (minus the bulbs) the 2 bolts you need to remove do not affect aim.

I can't speak for the newer mounts, but on our '95 the lamp aim almost always changes. Why I don't know, but I guess it's sensitive to the exact mount location.

Our '95 has the older style mount with the metal brackets, so it could just be the extra leverage on the aim point and having it exact.

Its worth every single penny.

I have volumes for every year S-Series, one model year of the ION, one year of the VUE, 2008 Aura, 2001 Suburban, plus the DVD that covers every GM vehicle from 1998-2005.

You'd save that amount of money or more the first time you use those manual's to complete a repair that you'd otherwise have to go to the dealer for. Heck, the price of that set of manuals is just a few bucks more than the one hour labor rate around here.

I do have to agree with you on them being worth every penny. So much information, and none of the tomfoolery of the Haynes' manuals.
