Default 2009 Cars Deals are Insane

A new feeditems entry has been added:

[drupal=2894]2009 Cars Deals are Insane[/drupal]

Quote:
Mark Solheim from Kiplinger: Auto sales in 2008 were the worst in 16 years, and this year could be even grimmer. Dealers desperate to move inventory off clogged lots are entertaining the lowest of low-ball offers. Add in generous cash rebates and low-interest financing - at least, for the most creditworthy customers - and screaming bargains abound. Bill Cormicle of Flint, Michigan, got a sweet deal on his new Saturn Vue, a model that was piling up on dealer lots.

Well apparently nobody told Saturn about all of the "insane" deals, because there is NO DEAL on the Saturn Sky. For some unknown reason, the 0% APR deal that is available to all of the Saturn brands is not available on the Sky. So those cars continue to just sit on the lot, collecting dust. Stupid. I'm ready to buy one, but I refuse to unless I get a decent incentive.

Wait until after Tuesday, Feb.17. If GM restructures and Saturn isn't part of the restructuring, that Sky could be yours for less than dealer cost.

My insane deal was $7100 off of list, good for me but not so much for GM...

Yeah, and it will have little to no resale value.

Just like every other Saturn (or GM in general...)...

Have you guys seen the slaughter that is the Pontiac G8? You can pick them up for just over half of what the car was new. A lot of people are getting 5-8k off MSRP on new ones.

I'd love ot order a Malibu LTZ with all the toys but there is no real price - they just quote you the msrp. I ain't paying anywhere near 31k for a Malibu. Wow, 0 finance rate on a bloated price is not much of a way to drum up floor traffic.

I just checked that this weekend, Black Book wholesale checked at a GM dealer is a little over $13,000 CDN, or about $1200 less than what I paid out the door. Still a killer deal but that could change depending on what happens with GM/Saturn. I took a chance but am very happy with the car and the deal.

JTO,

No, you got a great deal. I'm happy for you. I was talking about resale value if Saturn goes under. Even if Saturn goes under if you keep the car for a while resale value won't matter to you and in the long run you will win. I have had bad luck with cars so I don't keep them past the warranty period. It would be a bad deal for me.

As far as the Pontiac G8 V8 is concerned let's see what the resale value will be when gas is back to $4-5 per gallon. You won't be able to give them away and we all know it is just a matter of time before gas prices are sky high again.

Eh, the G8 GT actually does much better on gas than you'd think. it beats out my V6 powered Vue on the highway, with a lot more go. They're rated like 17/25 by the EPA. And that's with 360hp and a very nice interior (that lacks some features)

Have you stopped by a dealer to check out offers? They may be offering more incentives that what is listed in the GM presidents sale and you should be able to easily talk the price down.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the Skys if Saturn gets closed down. If the price was right on a Sky RL, I could do it.
