Hmmm. GM could start by laying off Lutz. His value to the company is questionable at best.

I disagree. I think Lutz has done a lot for GM. He has led the way for much of development of new vehicles within the passed few years.

There are many other places GM could save money.

Lutz fails to acknowledge the sales success of the original Saturn with its Tennessee built plastic cars that he likes to criticize as being cheap and crude. Obviously Saturn got something right back then that GM hasn't been able to replicate since.

Lutz's influence on GM is definately questionable. When the first bunch of post Lutz cars came out, a lot of people said, "now, see how good he is?". When quite of afew of them still sucked, they said "well, he didn't have enough time to change these". Now it seems they claim the Lutz effect when the car is a success. He also predicted the original CTS wouldn't sell because of its stealth fighter contours...based on what I'm seeing on the road, the all Lutz new CTS isn't moving as well as the old CTS. Frankly, I don't think its as fresh as the first one, its like they just sanded the corners and added some old school caddy tail fin lights.

He's also made some really questionable calls on quality and things like the enviroment. I suspect he's a lot like Bill Clinton... a lot of fun to be around, you'd love to have him as a buddy, but you'd always be a little leary of what he was about to do or say if you worked with him.

And yes, I think its fair to say he never was much for Saturn...I remember his onetime idea of wanting all the Saturns to have smiley faces.

He's the one who green-lighted the Solstice/Sky
He should be fired for letting that one out the door.

Lutz says he was responsible for the Viper- an idea he stole from Carroll Shelby and the Plymouth Prowler- an idea he stole from Chip Foose

Maximum Bob has a chance to change GM, but came in and set on his hands. GM models abroad looks nice. He needed to fire the US design team and bring in some foreign flare when he showed up. He basically came in with more of the same.
