Default Saturn Astra Lands on Another Top 10 List

[drupal=2832]Saturn Astra Lands on Another Top 10 List[/drupal]

Jill Ciminillo, Autos Editor for the Chicago Sun Times: Cashing in on the current Euro styling trend, GM brought it's Opel Astra to the U.S. under the guise of the Saturn Astra. Not much changed between the two models except the badging, which makes the Astra a bit of a departure from the run-of-the-mill GM lineup... and I liked it. The Astra is compact, affordable, functional and fuel efficient.

Great article, probably the best one on the Astra, but I wonder why nobody from GM/Saturn showed the author how to use the center controls?

A pretty nice article but two things I disagree with. They said they had trouble with the shifter...

I liked but didn't love the five-speed manual transmission. I was able to wring a good amount power out of the engine with the manual shifting, but both my driving partner and I had a hard time with the gearbox itself. When shifting to third, we'd end up in fifth, and trying to downshift to fourth would engine-screetchingly shift us into second.
Not once have I experienced an issue finding 4th from 5th - it's straight back from center, no? Same goes for 3rd - straight up from center. I can't understand hitting 5th from 2nd since it's pretty far right. My only gripe is IMO reverse is geared too low. I find myself having to give it a little more gas than necessary or slip the clutch a little more.

Regarding the 'tightness' of the seats...

My driving partner -- also a petite female -- and I loved the well-bolstered, body-hugging seats in the three-door, but our larger male counterparts grumbled about the tight fit and expressed a better liking for the less-supportive seats in the five-door.
How big are these male counterparts? I mean, I'm not small - I wear a 48" jacket - and I don't find the seat too tight. Yeah, I'm pretty snug in it but hey, it's incentive for me to lose weight.
