Default 2005 Ion Won't Start When Cold

Daughter is home from college, and tells me that occasionally, when its really cold outside, her Ion (2005 5-speed) won't start.

Happened to me in the driveway a couple days ago.

Everything looks fine, but when I turn it to crank, it won't crank. All the dashboard lights are on, and everything looks OK. Its almost like what happens when you try to crank the engine without the clutch fully depressed.

She says she'll try it early in the morning, and when it doesn't start, she'll try later in the day after the weather has warmed up a little, and it will crank and start fine.

Suggestions?

2005 ION-2 Sedan
Default Re: 2005 Ion Won't Start When Cold

I have a 2005 Ion that had the same problem. I changed the ignition switch as detailed on this forum and it now starts fine all of the time. The part cost about $32 at Saturn and it took me about 1 hour, including resetting the pass lock.
