Re: Report: Dealers May Have the Upper Hand as Automakers Look to Consolidate
It is time for these so-call "analysts" who "just want Saturn to go away" to go away themselves.
Saturn is part of the solution, not the problem, IF MANAGEMENT WILL JUST LET IT.
The sheep-ople who listen to these "analysts" are part of the problem as well.
But hey guess what.... St. Toyota announced they are having problems with sales as did St. Honda, two operations that have been upheld as some higher standard to which we should strive.
Get over it folks.. it is not UAW salaries (which are competitive with Honda and Toyota) but the older legacy costs. I fail to recognize how biffing Saturn eliminates the legacy costs. If anything, the original Saturn, which did not have the legacy costs and its own UAW contract, was much more competitive. It was only after "management", who is about as smart as the "analysts", folded Saturn into 'the family' when the cost of Saturn vehicles inherited the legacy costs.
Saturn did have startup costs, but don't go blaming the UAW for that one. Starting any new car line from the ground up is going to take a lot of capital and is going to take a long time to amortize.
Saturn is the sacrificial lamb tossed under the bus to appeal to the public and (opposite of pro is con)gress that they are 'doing something'. Yep, more decision making by sound-bite.
The real difficult solution is how do we take Saturn back to its roots to build small fuel efficient and affordable cars that people want.
