2005 Astra XR
Default Newbie from over the pond

Hello there!

My name is Mike, and I'm from London, England. How are you lot doing?

I've been on Astra Owners Network for a while now, don't know if any of you guys know that site at all.

I drive a 2005 Vauxhall Astra SXi. I've had it for about 3 months now, and have many many maaaany plans of it.

Here are some pictures that were taken not long after I bought it:-

I went to a rolling road with Astra Owners Network a few weeks back, and it is pumping 107.8 BHP from it's 1.6 engine Here is a picture of it on the rollers:-

Later the same evening, I decided to take the Vauxhall griffin on the back to complete it's debadge. I'm considering putting an "irmscher" logo on the chrome strip a little later, so the "ASTRA" badge may come back, but the griffin is saying off.

My current plans are:-

Eibach Sportline Lowering Springs (40-55mm drop )
Irmscher Upper Rear Roof Spoiler
Irmscher Side Skirts
Either an Irmsher Front Lower Spoiler/Splitter OR an Irmscher Airdam bumper. Undecided at the moment
Vauxhall XP Rear Bumper Extension
Bee-Sting Aerial
Irmscher Aluminium-Strip Front Grille
6k HID headlights
6k HID foglights
LED Sidelights
Deeper sounding horn (The standard one is pathetic!)
Straight-through exhaust system with backbox
ECU remap
Irmscher Aluminium heater vent covers
Irmscher Aluminium Door Handle Grips
Graphics Information Display with Trip Computer activated
Cruise Control
Whiter interior light bulbs
Blue interior LED/SMD conversion (That orange is so tacky!)
18" Alloys from the Vauxhall Astra VXR Nurburgring Edition, only in silver, not white
Possible drop down screen from centre roof console
I might consider putting a sunroof in, not seen it done on the Astra H yet!

I really can't wait to start doing this, it's just a matter of money at the moment.

Look forward to posting on this forum. Looks like it's a great community!

Don't mention it to Americans too much, we only have the 1.8 that delivers 138 hp here and people are swearing up and down that it's an horribly slow car and that it's severely underpowered. You're going to give them heart attacks if they hear too much about an Astra with 108 hp! Different continent, different car culture

Happy Re: Newbie from over the pond

Hi Mike and welcome! I have been anticipating the Astra for years and we finally have it here in the US! Yes, I have been to the UK Astra sites, too bad you have to become a paid member to fully participate. There is also USAstra.com which is rather a newbie startup and much welcome.

Great to see you have so many mods done and planned. We here in the US are unable to comprehend anything that doesn't go 0-60mph in under 10 seconds, LOL. But the driving dynamics of the Astra are just awesome.

Most here dont even know that there are many engine sizes that an Euro-Astra can have as we only have the 1.8L, which is no dog either. As we here in the USA are one of the last countries in the world to recieve the Astra it is nice that there is finally a car that we all have something in common with.

Cheers from we hot-rodding gas guzzling yanks!
