Default Vue two-mode delay

Did anyone else read that Saturn(GM) is delaying the Vue two-mode until Q1 of 2009?

This is so disappointing. I am really anxious to test drive one of these.

From what I have read, the mileage is outstanding.

If the Vue two-mode is getting 28-33 mpg in the real world, I would love to see what an Aura would get. Remember this is with the 3.6.

I got the above mentioned information from Edmunds(Green cars).

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

It wasn't delayed... the Vue 2-Mode was originally scheduled as a mid-year release.

Not to disagree, but GM spokesman Brian Corbett says and I quote

"We regularly review the status of our vehicle programs and have decided to RE-TIME the Vue 2 mode launch to Q1 2009."

That to me means a delay. Unless some issues have come up, this is GM being GM which is what has got them in the mess they are in.

They need to get this vehicle out as soon as possible, although I will admit GM's timing is horrible these days, with gas near $2.00/gallon.

I have a question, I hope you have the answer.

If Toyota can have a hybrid Camry with the 2.4, why can't GM get one done for the Aura/Malibu? As much as I love the mileage that the two-mode is showing for the Vue with the 3.6, the Vue doesn't work for my family. It is too small on the interior, the Aura has more room for seating. FYI, I have a 14 year old who is 5-10, I am 6-0.

What I really want to know is are there any plans for the two-mode in the Aura? I know this is the Vue blog, but I can't get any answers out of my local dealer.

I want and would buy today a 3.6 Aura two-mode. I have a 07 Aura XR, love the car.

I realize GM is near bankruptcy, but if the auto industry receives either a bailout or loans, is GM even considering a real hybrid for the Aura/Malibu?

Don't even mention the BAS system. It should be standard across the board for all people who don't want a hybrid. But let's be honest, it doesn't compete mileage wise, and eventually gas will go up again.

Completely different hybrid systems.

Not with the first generation of the 2-mode.

Thanks for the information.

I agree they are different hybrid systems, but I feel the two mode is much superior.

Since the 3.6 doesn't have cylinder deactivation, the 2.4 should work.

How soon for the next generation two mode or will it be four mode hybrid?

This is all providing GM survives, sure hope so.

Gen 2 won't be until at least the next gen products roll out - 4-5 years. And given how cash-strapped GM is, maybe even longer if Congress is stingy on the $25bil from the CAFE mandate. Gen 2 will still be a 2-mode, as city and highway are the only two types of driving... unless you think we'll have flying and aquatic hybrids by then. That'd be your 4-mode.
