Hello -
I just want to thank saturnfans (again) for all their advice. I wanted to put in new speakers for my front doors. Nothing special, just a stealthy upgrade over OEM. I used Richpins video sticky : Richpin's How To Videos Sticky http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=124184 To find this how to video : Saturn S-series Inner Door Panel Removal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF5vCjhcyd8 Someone else on saturnfans suggested Kenwood speakers from Crutchfield. I already have a cheap Kenwood stereo, so I went with that. I was super happy because I got the wiring attachment kit from Crutchfield for free. Here are the pix of what I did : Kenwood KHC-1660S Speakers : The Speaker out of the box : The Speaker easily separates into 3 parts : As other saturnfans have said, it's the outermost connection holes (the open holes on the exposed speaker on the left) that are needed for installation. This is what made the purchase "safe" for me. I didn't have to worry if it would fit or not. Here is the stock speaker before removal : I thought that the fabric was a removable cover, but it is part of the speaker. I wish that the Kenwood came with something that (mostly) stopped the dust, but I'm not complaining. I'm happy with the outcome. The Kenwood kit comes with 8 installation screws and 8 attachers (one set for one speaker shown here) : At first I thought I could use the "stock" connectors, but they were useless with the "open" connection holes on the Kenwood. The attachment kit loosely installed : After some fiddling, I figured out that I could put the loosely screws "in place". I reused the OEM speaker protective backing : Here is the new speaker installed : I was able to reuse the speaker mesh grill that came with the Kenwoods : Here is the new speaker fully installed : I am really happy that the grill mesh was useable because you can see that it would be easy to damage the speaker with a screwdriver. Installation Note: Zip-Tie "Pull Rod" : I didn't have the Pull Rod that Richpin uses in his video. I was able to make do for taking the door lock off, but I didn't know how I would be able to "pull" the rod onto the lower door lock. My solution was to use a Zip-Tie to "hold" the lower rod in place. Once the rod was securely attached, I cut the Zip-Tie off. CarloSW2

Dunno about anyone else but I just dismantle the stock connector for the speakers and tape those on to the speaker. I've never gotten to use those nifty adapters that'd let me not go through the trouble of dismantling the connector though.
There's a tool for putting the lock rods back on? That'd be useful to have in a 1st gen...seriously not needed for 2nd gen. ... 1997 SC1, moms 1996 SL1, parts 1993 SL2, parts 1978 F250, mine

I just crank it even more and I cant hear it anymore... Do or do not, there is no try. -Yoda

It is so much easier to just drill new holes for the front door speakers. Dynamat should also be put where the speakers are. I think it helps. And if you are putting in rear speakers, a lock nut and bolt work well along with dynamat.

You could try to put dynamat on the mirror but idk about that. Car mirrors are always gonna move. There is a screw that secures the mirror so try tightening that as much as possible, it helped cut down rattling coming from the mirrror in my car.
Putting dynamat in the trunk and on the rear deck is a smart idea maybe even the floor of the car to cut down on road noise.

This is a built-in safety interlock. It's dangerous to drive (and a public nuisance) with the noise up that loud. The mirror vibrates as a reminder to turn it down before putting the car in motion.

If it's doing that to your rear view mirror, imagine what it is doing to the stereocilia (little tiny hairs that help you hear) that are inside of your ear?
