A new feeditems entry has been added:

Quote:
The Detroit Free Press reported in an article published last week that Saturn plans to offer only a sedan version of it's next-gen Aura midsize car. There was speculation that the upcoming Aura, which will be heavily based on the new Opel Insignia, would be offered in sedan, hatchback, and wagon versions.

Charlie,

The wagon would have been my main reason for buying a next gen AURA.

The Outlook and Vue are not for me. I think they're very nice vehicles, but just not my style. Utility and the fuel economy are what I'm looking for these days.

I only hope Saturn brings over the next gen ASTRA Wagon. If not, the only car I'm interested in is the E-Flex.......

Ken

I'm somewhat disappointed as well that there won't be a wagon variant, but I'm not surprised either, considering how automakers would rather be building crossovers.

It remains to be seen whether that will have any effect on whether my dad buys an Aura as his next car; he is absolutely loving his '03 LW300 and is 50/50 on the idea of having to settle for a sedan when the time comes to trade...eventually.

Thank god. Wagons are dead. There is a reason just about no one is making them anymore.

It's funny how people think there is some fundamental distinction and rigid classification that separates one vehicle from another, not wanting to be caught dead driving a "station wagon".

If you take an SUV, remove its heavy frame, then it's called a CUV.

If you take the CUV, lower it's roof line and ground clearance, and voila, it looks like a wagon.

If you then notch the wagon's back end so that it's less squared-off and more stylish, then presto, it's a hatchback.

If you then shrink the hatch and remove its window, making it less useful, then shazzamm, it's now a sedan with a trunk!

I would have been interested in the hatchback. From the spy photos, it looked every bit as good as the sedan, but would have had more functionality.

The sedan is not as an efficient use of space and material as the hatchback ... it should have been dropped rather than the hatchback.

Without better utility, I cannot foresee any reason I would want to buy the next gen Aura sedan. Too bad.

This is NOT good news. Though I do understand. Guess there is no new Saturn purchase on my 3 year horizon. I will stick to finding used 4cyl L-series and SAAB 9-5 wagons to drive.

Then again, opinions are like ***holes...everybody has one and they all stink.

My question is this: Is the pig you are referring to the Astra or hatchbacks in general? Cause if they just don't like Astras (assuming that is your pig), what is an Astra with a dress and lipstick?

The pig analogy was to respond to "dude" ... he was convinced the Astra was unliked because it was hatchback, my point was that maybe the fundamentals of the Astra are flawed, regardless of its back end.

Personally, I am ambivalent about the Astra ... I don't think it's good or bad, I was attempting to be humourous ... I did not intend to besmearch the quality or reputation of the Astra ... I should have used a better analogy, please accept my apology.

Now, what if I had said, "Jennifer Aniston is still hot even if she's wearing an ugly dress made of burlap"?

yeh, and she has one of what you referred to as well, and without soap & water, it probably matches your odiferous adjective about it ...

Will this now assuage the wrath of the offended Astra fans?

hint: Astra = Jennifer Aniston, hatchback = burlap dress, backend = still fine

You don't have to apologize, I wasn't offended. I don't even have an Astra.
As far as Jennifer Aniston is concerned, bad analogy again; she is way better than an Astra ever will be.

I would agree that a wagon model would be nice, and I would consider replacing my CUV with one. I just need one vehicle that can be used to haul home remodeling materials like big boxes and lumber, from time to time - as well as being able to haul people. A 3rd seat - 7 passenger option on a wagon would be even better.

Half of those you posted are crossovers and not Wagons. Not to mention at least one has been discontinued.
