Default Time to replace the 03 VUE with possibly an 08

With my search for my 2003 VUE FWD replacement starting up, I decided to go non-Saturn this time. I have no issues with my VUE or Saturn; it is just the lack of a convenient dealer for service. I have priced and or tried the following: Hyundai Tucson, Honda CRV & Element, Toyota Rav4, Ford Escape, Nissan Rogue and VW Tiguan. The only AWD model I looked at was the Rogue SL. The Tiguan is on the short list.

On all of the above just to get a sunroof, you have to buy a pricey option package(s) which is fine for most, but maybe I am in the minority when I do not want Bluetooth enabled devices and glued on trim pieces to make a FWD vehicle look like a rugged all terrain truck.

I decided tonight to price a 2008 VUE XE. I was shocked to find out that I can buy one with a sunroof, roof rails and trailer hitch for $23,500 (according to Saturn.com). Basically everything but a compass / temp gauge rear view mirror is included. The only item I cannot seem to find is the traction control. Is the Stabilitrak the same as traction control?

I also searched dealerís inventory and cannot seem to find an XE equipped the way I am looking for it. I know most buyers elect more features, but a car is an appliance to me.

I would like to make this my 5th Saturn.

...
2009 Subaru Forester / AT
2006 Scion Xa / AT

Former Saturns all bought new:
2003 Saturn VUE 2.2 / 5 sp
2001 Saturn L100 - 5 sp
1997 Saturn SL2 - AT
1996 Saturn SL2 - 5 sp

Stabilitrak is stability control, better than traction control.

The Stabilitrak system combines antilock brake, traction, and stability control (correct me if I am wrong).

The compass and temp guage is now in the DIC of the Vue and not the mirror, but if you purchase a 08 that was produced during a certain timeframe then you may not have the compass feature. I am not sure of the exact timeframe but I know that the first 08 I had was produced in October 2007 and did not have the compass. My current one was produced in January 08 and does have it.

I bought mine in May and it was shipped just 3 weeks earlier than that to my dealer, and mine has the compass as well.

Traction Control will help you if you are stuck in the snow by helping to keep your wheels from spinning. Stabiltrak will help you if you go into a corner to fast and your back end begins to slide, stabiltrak, will, within reason, help you to bring the car back under control by selectively applying brake on one side or the other, as required.
I thought all Vues came with traction control (I am fairly certain all XRs do and as I said, I thought all XEs did also but I could be wrong.
If you have to choose, stabiltrak, in my opinion is the most important. One never knows when he or she may encounter black ice or just to much speed in a corner. If you get really stuck, well traction control probably wouldn't have helped enough to get you out anyway.
I have a Sept 07 produced 08 XR AWD and it doesn't have the compass. While that may be a bummer, the rest of the vehicle is terrific. Love my Vue

Can you still get the GM employee pricing or is that done?

Unless they extended it again that promotion ended yesterday. In my area they started the 0% financing or $1000/$2000 cash allowance promotion for the 2008 Vues only. They had discontinued the 0% during the Employee Discount promotion...

If I'm not mistaken, all of the 08 Vues come with both the Stabilitrak Electronic Stability Program and the Traction Control System standard. I don't think it's an either/or option.
