is the exhaust from the manifold to the cat the same for th e98 & 99 SL1? that is manifold exhaust pipe, flex joint, flex joint pipe, to the cat.

Yes, if both have the same emissions package.

though some '99s have the precat. If you don't have a precat system, avoid it. Most '99s do not have the precat, though.

Wait... I'm actually not sure if the SOHC had a precat now that I think about it...

Side note: if you had been talking about a DOHC, '98 and '99 would NOT be interchangable, but for the SOHC they are.

the car is an SL1 sohc, no pre-cat. a hole has reared its ugly head where the manifold exhaust pipe connects to the flex joint.
